HARRY F. WOERNLEY, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR T THE `V\TES'.I.1N(`:1- HOUSE .AIR BRAKE COMPANY, OF WILMERDING, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION 0F PENNSYLVANIA.
COUPLNG ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Application led November 2, 1914. Serial No. 869,799.
To all whom 'it maglqncern:
Be it known that I, HARRY F. WOERNLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and `useful Improvements in Coupling Attachments, of which the following is a speci-- mounted in apertures of lugs 1 carried by a bracket secured to the car center sills 6.
The forward end of the casing is provided with a lug 7 adapted to rest on a supporting guide bar 8 secured to the car center sills and curved to provide a support for the casing when the same turns on the pivot pin 3.
Within the casing l is mounted a draft gear yoke 9 containing follower plates 10 and 11 between which is placed the draft gear elements such as the springs 12 and 13.
The rearward interior portion of the casing 1 is provided with shoulders 14: for the follower plate and the front follower 11 is adapted to engage square thimbles 15 secured by bolts 16 within the casing. rThe coupler head 17 is attached to the extended shank 18 of the yoke 9 by means of a horizontally arranged pivot pin 19. r1`he coupler head 17 can thus move vertically on the pin 19 and horizontally' on the pivot pinv 3. In
order to allow for a twisting movement of the coupler head, the yoke 9 is provided with cylindrical bearing faces 2D arranged longitudinally and adapted to bear Vagainst cori responding bearing faces 21 formed on the interior of the casing 1, so that the yoke 9 'can rotate to a certain extent within the casing and thus permit of a twisting movement of the coupler head.
Having now described my invention, what 1 claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a draft gear attachment, the combination witha draft gear yoke provided with bearing faces, of a casing inelosing said yoke and having bearing faces coperating with the bearing faces' on the yoke to permit axial rotative movement of the yoke within the casing.
2. lfn a draft gear attachment, the combination with a draft gear yoke having longitudinal cylindrical bearing faces, of a casing within which said yoke is mounted and havr' ing bearing faces corresponding with the bearing faces of the yoke to permit of a relative rotative movement of the yoke.
In a draft gear attachment, the combination with a draft gear yoke having cylindrical bearing faces, of a casing having corresponding bearing faces arranged in the interior of the casing at the top and bottom Patented Jan. 9, 3191*?.
and on which the bearing faces of the yoke are adapted to engage and thereby provide for a rotative movement of the yoke relative to the casing.
1n testimony whereof have hereunto set my hand.
HARRY F. WOERNLEY.
