By thisl means the danger ol tipping the jaelc is obviated.
Anailvantageinthe presenteonstriwtion is in that the standard is ixeil to the threaded standard ol lhejael; in the most ronrenient manner without regard to the other standard or without regard to thi` ditferential rating or other portions of the axle. The coiislruetions has manyy advantages which wil be apuirent to those skilled in the art, and it is bivious that inodilieations may be triade therein. Such modifications as are within the scope of my claims 1 consider within the spirit of my invention.
By reason of the construction of the clamp and the fact that the support for the standard :ZOis laterally oliset with relation to the axis ol the screw threaded standard 1Q, the space between adjacent standards 2G mayI be adjusted by swinging the clamps on the threaded standards. The position of the feet il "s determined by rotating the standard Z0 in its socket.
I claim:
i. In a jat-k, the combination ol' a` threaded standard, a bracket adapted to be clamped to the threaded portion of said Standard, and u second Istandard mountedinsaidbrzuflofl with means for vertically adjusting,` said last nieu tioned standard, substantially as described.
L. In a jack, the. combination of a threaded standard, means for raising and hovering: said standard, a Clamp adapted to ei'igage the threaded portion of said standard, au apertured extension from said Clamp, and a seeond standard mounted in said aperture with capacity for vertical adjustment, sul stautiallyv as described.
3. In a jack, the combination of a threaded Ystandard, a bracket having a vertical aperture, a clamp associated with said bracket and adapted to engage the threaded portion of said standard, an extension standard adapted toI occupy the aperture in said bracket, and a brace-rod extending from said bracket to the article to be supported by said jaek, substantially as described.
4. In a device of the class described, the Combination ,of a casting lniviirr a vertical aperture therein and provided with an apertured lug, an arm hinged to'said lug, screw` means for engaging and holding' said arm., a threaded aperture being provided be tween Huid extension and said arm, one-half ol' said threaded aperture being in each of said portions, :said threaded aperture being adapted to engage the threaded stalulald of' a jaeli, and au extension standard adapted to occupy the first named aperture iu said casting, substantially as ilefierihed.
5. vIn a device of the class described, the roinbinatioa of a member haring a vertical aperture, an apertnred ear and an apertured lug, a clamping member associated with said a pertured lug whereby said member may be attached to a vertically adjustable portion of a jack, and a brace-rod adapted to be seeured to said apertured ear, su istantially as described.
(3. In a jack, the combination ot a thread ed Standard. a bravket adapted to be clamped to the threaded portion ol' said standard. and a sei-mid standard mounted in said bracket u ith means'. for `vertically adjusting said last mentioned etandaril. sai-fl bracket being ro tatable about said threaded Standard as an axis, soif-stantiaily as. described.
'i'. In a jai-ii, the combination ot' a pair ot `dandards. mean. for rertiially artiest-ing said standarde, :i pair of brackets, one of whirh. is alla'1 ed to be s* -uieil to the. threaded portion of each o .aid standards, Said brackets being eaeh provided with a wrtieal api-:ture which is eccentric. to the point of attaelunent of the bracket to said threaded standard, said braelets being mounted for rotation on the standard, and extension standards inonutrd in the veitieal apertures of' said brachen; and prorided with means for staining' a wrti ai adjustment of said extension standards: relative to said brackets, the arrangement being sneli as to pro; \ide for ailinsting said extension standards toward and from each other' by rotating one thereof about the thraded Standard to whirh it is connected.` snbstantiaily as de scribed.
