sYEINGE on ATOMIZEE.
To aZZ 'whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, ALEXANDER DEUTSCH, subject of Austria-Hungary, residing at Girard, in the county of Trumbull and State ofOhio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Syringes or Atomizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to syringes or atomizers for squirting disinfectants, airpurifying mediums, or perfumes, and particularly designed for use in public buildings, such as auditoriums, theaters, etc. Where an ordinary syringe or atomizer is used for such purposes, the squirting of disinfectant or perfume in a room occupied by an audience has often been found objectionable, forV the reason that the dispersed medium is liable to strike the eyes of a person or damage the apparel. i
The principal object ofthis invention is to so construct the atomizer that not the medium itself is ejected, but air caused,l to be impregnated with or moistened by the me` dium, so that no harm can be done by the dispersed air particles. t
To accomplish this object vmy invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of the specication and in which similar reference characters denote corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of one embodiment of my instrument; Fig. 2 is a front end view thereof; Fig. 3 is a cross section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 4f is a cross section on line 1 -4 of Fig. 1.
The instrument, according to my invention, consists of an air receptacle a which at one end is hermetically closed by a removable cover b and its opposite end is'formed to a mouth piece c provided with screw thread 0 to receive a slightly narrower tubular receptacle Z for the liquid or other medium desired to be atomized. This receptacle at one end is threaded both on its outside and inside as at cZ, d2, to engage into the mouth piece c and to receive and hold a valve casing to be hereafter specified. At the opposite or forward end the` receptacle is threaded on its outside at Z3 to receive a substantially conical nozzle e. The receptacle is also provided with a circumferential opening f through which it can be l,Specification of Letters Patent.

charged withthe liquid or other medium and which is adapted to be normally closed by a cover g.
lT he forward end of the nozzle has ya wall ZL which has a number of small perforations Zz. and hinged thereto is a-lid i for closing the nozzle when the instrument is not in use. Near the inner end of the receptacle a are a plurality of circumferential air openings a" which are controlled by suitable suction valves j; These valves are arranged in and are actuated by springs y" which tend to hold the valves in closed position. Screwed into the rear end of the receptacle cZ is a cylindrical casing Z the circumference of which is perforated as at Z and the forward end of whichhasa number of openings Z2 which are controlled by valves m adapted to move outwardly andv 'normallyl held on their seats The receptacles a and Z have each a piston 0 and p' respectively, which aresuitably fixed on a common rod n tacles andl through thevalve casing Z and the rear end of which projects outwardly` through the cover b and carries a knob g or other suitable grasp.
The operation of the instrument is as follows: After the liquid o-r other medium to be dispersed is charged into the receptacle (Z through the opening f, the piston rod is moved rearwardly whereby the piston o will by its suction action draw air through the openings a, the valves j opening and the valves m closing under this suction action. During the return or forward stroke of the piston 0 the air becomes compressed and forces open valves m entering the receptacle d, wherein after mixing and becoming impregnated with the liquid it is ejected through the perforation p of piston p into the nozzle. Thence it is ejected in atomized state by the double action of the two outwardly or forwardly moving pistons through the perforation h.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An atomizer of the characterl described, comprising a receptacle for the medium to be dispersed, a perforated piston therein, and an air pump communicating with said receptacle, the said piston and air pump being operatively connected so that the air drawn in by said pump is caused 1' liquid medium, another receptacle in ex* 2. AnV atomizer of thev character de? scribed, comprising a receptacle for the said other receptacle, air controlling means l, for the last named receptacle and means forY controlling communication between the two receptacles and arranged so that the air drawn into the second receptacle is' caused to be impregnated with the medium con-l tained in the first receptacle and subsequently dispersed into the surrounding air.
3. An ato-mizer of the character described, comprising a receptacle for the medium to be dispersed, a perforated piston working.
therein, an air pump, the piston of the latterwith that inthe said receptacle being operatively connected together, air con-- trolling valves and means for controlling communication between said receptacle Vand said pumpand arranged so that the air drawn linto the second receptacle is caused to be impregnated with lthe medium contained in the first receptacle and subse quently dispersed into "the surrounding air.
4. An atomizer of the character described,
g comprising a receptacle for the medium to be dispersed, a perforated nozzle at Aone end Copies ofthis patent may be obtained forrve cents each, by addressing the iioomniissioner *of*- Patents,"
thereof, aperforated Vpiston inl said vreceptacle, an air pump connected with said receptacle and operatively connected with said plstonand means for controlling communication between said air pump and said receptacle. ,v
5. An atomizer of the character described, comprising av receptacle for themedium to be dispersed, a perforated piston therein, a perforated nozzle on'said receptacle, an air pump, the piston of'whichv and thatof the said receptacle have arcommon piston rod, and means for automatically ycontrolling thecommunioation between said air pump and said receptacle. j v Y Y 6. An atomizen'comprising anair pump, a liquid receptacle and an atomizing nozzle, all three removably' connected together, valves between the air pump and'said liquid receptacle to control communication between them and a perforated `piston in theliquid receptacle operatively connected with y the air pump.j A Y In testimony whereof ffaiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses. Y j ALEXANDER DEUTSCH.
