Description

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
JAMES WEATHERS, OF GREENSBURG, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-JACKS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,030, dated November 14, 1871.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, JAMES WEATHERS, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon-Jack; and do hereby declarethat the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a Wagon-jack, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
. In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, Iwill now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a perspective view of my machine. 7
A and B represent the legs, which are pivoted at their upper ends by a single bolt, a, one on each side to the front end of the lever O. The leg A has on its front edge a series of notches, b b, as shown. To the side of the lever G, a suitable distance from the front end, is pivoted a bar, D, having a staple, 01, passed through its front end, one tang, e, of said staple passing entirely through said bar, and being of sufficient length to catch in the notches b b on the leg A.
With this machine it matters not how uneven the ground may be or where thewagon stands. When the legs are divided any obstacle may be shunned, and the legs can be spread so as to raise either a high or a low Wagon. When the wagon is raised it can go neither forward nor backward. Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
. The within-described wagon-jack, composed of the legA with notches b b, leg B, lever (J, and bar D with tang or pin 0, the lever and legs being pivoted together by one bolt, a, all substantially as herein set forth.
- In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 23d day of September,
1871. JAMES WEATHERS.
