Description

J. D. SATER.
Improvement in Line Holders.
No l121 O06 Patented Nov.14,1871.
JOHN D. sATER, OF GREENsBURG, INDIANA, AssIeNOR To sA'rnR a sON, OF
y A sAME PLAOE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LINE-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,006, dated November 14, 1871.
` To all whom t may concern:
Be it known th at I, JOHN l). SATER, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur and in the State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Line-Holders; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a line-holder or coi-delamp, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Inorder to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in whichy Figure 1 is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is an inside view of the line-holder.
A represents a box made of cast or other metal, or it might be called a plate with iianges on one side around the edges, to form a box when fastened to the place where wanted. At one end this box is fastened by a screw, which also pivots a lever, B, Within the box, and at the other end is a projecting ilange, a, through Which an other screw is passed to fasten it in place. The outer end of the lever B is slightly pointed, as shown in Fig. 2, and the end of the box A, opposite said end, is toothed or corrugated. The line or cord is passed between the pointed end b of the lever B and the corrugations i i on the box, the sides of the box being provided with openings ol l for that purpose.
rlhe operation of this holder or clamp is readily seen. By pulling the line or cord in one direction it is allowed to move freely; but when pulled in the Opposite direction it is firmly held by the lever against the corrugations in the box.
Havingthus fully describedmy invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
rIhe combination of the box A having corrugations il i and openings (l d, with the pivoted lever B having pointed end b, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of September, 1871.
JOHN D. SATER.
