STOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed January 21, 1916. Serial No. 73,489.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALFRED J. CREAsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in resilient stools for use in taking up vibration and consists of a simple and eiiicient device of this nature having various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is an elevation of a stool. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view on line 22 of Fig. l, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of a part of the device.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates the frame of a stool, which in the present instance is three-legged, and is provided with a top plate B, apertured at G, and the ends of the plate are downwardly bent and apertured as at E. The seat is designated in the drawings by letter F and has a post H, which post is apertured as at I for the reception of the pin K. A plate 0 has its ends bent at angles as at O and has apertures P to which the lower ends of the coiled springs Q. are fastened, the upper ends of said springs being fastened in the apertures in the top of the frame. By the provision of said pin and plate, it will be noted that the stool may be held at different elevations. A second pin, designated by letter R, is mounted in aperturesT near the lower end of the post and support a washer S between which and a crosspiece W, through which the post passes, a coiled spring X is mounted and adapted to take up the vibration incident to the upper movement of the post.
By the provision of a stool made in accordance with my invention, it will be noted that means is provided whereby the seat, incident to the springs mounted as shown, will take up vibrations when the seat moves downward or upward as the case may be, the upper springs taking up the vibration on the downward movement of the post and the one at the lower part upon the upward move ment of the same.
WVhat I claim to be new is A stool comprising legs, crosspieces connecting said legs, an apertured plate secured to said crosspieces, an apertured plate fixed to the upper end of said legs, a seat and apertured post supporting the same, a movable plate having an aperture therein for the reception of said post, a pin passing through registering apertures in the post and positioned above said plate through which the post passes, springs connecting the stationary plate at the top of the legs with the plate through which the post passes, a pin passed through an aperture in the post below the apertured plate which is. fastened to said cross-pieces, and a spring interposed between said last referred to pin and the adjacent apertured plate.
In testimony whereof I hereunto afiix my signature in presence of'two witnesses.
ALFRED JOSEPH GREASE.
