DRENCHING-IBOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 19, 1916.
Application filed August 12, 1916. Serial No. 114,562.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GORDIE DAWKINS, citizen of the United States, residing at Truxno, in the parish of Union and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drenching-Bottles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improved drenching bottle and has for its primary object to provide a very simply constructed device of this character for administering medicine to horses, cattle or other domestic animals.
It is another important object of the invention to provide a drenching bottle which is so constructed that all liability of the neck of the bottle being broken off and the possible choking or strangulation of the animal obviated.
The invention also has for an additional object to provide means which will permit of the free flow of the liquid down the throat of the animal and without spilling or wasting the same.
It is a further general object of my invention to improve and simplify the construction of devices of the above character whereby the same may be manufactured at relatively small cost.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of my improved drenching bottle; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates the body of the bottle and 6 the reduced, elongated, longitudinally extending neck portion thereof. The bottle is entirely constructed of rubber or other suitable flexible material, the body portion thereof having relatively thick walls and being comparatively rigid, while the elongated neck portion will readily bend or flex in any direction.
In one side of the body wall of the bottle, an opening 7 is formed communuicating with the interior thereof, and an annular recess or depression 8 is formed in the outer surface of the bottle wall, concentric with this opening. Spaced ears 9 are formed upon the wall of the bottle at one side of the annular recess 8 and a lever 10 has its shank portion pivotally mounted upon the pin 11 fixed in these ears. One end of this lever is formed with a cap or head 12 having a leather disk 13 suitably secured to its bottom face. A leaf spring 14 is fixed at one of its ends to the other end of said lever, said spring bearing at its free end against the wall of the bottle. This spring normally holds the lever in the position shown in Fig. 1 with the closure head 12 thereof engaged in the recess 8 and the leather disk 13 bearing tightly upon the base wall of said recess. Thus, an air-tight closure is provided for the opening 7 in the wall of the bottle and the escape of its contents prevented.
In the use of my improved bottle, the body portion thereof is grasped in the hand and the elongated neck inserted down the throat of the animal. With the finger of the hand grasping the bottle, the end of the lever 10 is depressed so as to raise the closure head 12 thereof and permit the air to enter the interior of the bottle so that the liquid will flow freely and steadily from the neck of the bottle down the animals throat. It will thus be seen that I have devised a drenching bottle which may be quickly and conveniently manipulated to administer the medicine and without waste thereof or great discomfort to the animal. The bottle may, of course, be constructed in various sizes and of any desired capacity.
While I have shown and "described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several features of the invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of considerable modification therein and I, therefore, reserve the privilege of adopting all such legitimate changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I desire to claim and secure by Letters Patent is A drenching bottle entirely constructed of rubber and having a relatively rigid body portion and a reduced, elongated, flexible neck portion, the body wall of the bottle being provided with an opening in one side thereof and an annular recess in the outer the usethereof, wherebythe valve head ma y face of said wall surrounding said opening, be inoved to its open position. 1
a valve lever pivotally mounted upon the In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my Y body Wall having a head on one end for ensignature in the presence of tWo Witnesses. 5 gagenient in said recess,"an'd a spring nor- 'GORDIE DAWKINS.
mally holding the valve head in its closed. Witnesses: V 7 position, said lever being operated by the 'ToM DAWKINS, ffingers of the hand holding the bottle in 7 J. M. DAWKINS.
