HAIR-DRIER.

Application filed May 17, 1916.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, LBERTINA KEEGAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Hair-Driel', and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to the art of driers, and particularly to an improved hair drying device, and an object of the invention is to provide a device of this kind designed to rest upon the burner or over the burner of a gas range, whereby the heat will pass through the drier, and be deflected toward and upon the hair on the head of a person who may sit in front of the drier, so that the hair will be thoroughly dried.

Another object of the invention is to provide a drie-r of this kind comprising an elbow tube which is rectangular in cross section to rest above the burner of a gas range, so as to deflect the heat therefrom laterally,

toward and upon the hair ofva person sitting in front of the tube.

Another object of the invention is to provide an elbow tubular drier of this kind, so that either end of the drier may enga-ge over the burner, there being weight means to counterbalance the drier, should the short end of the drier engage over the burner.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an elbow tubular drier consisting of two sections telescopically united, so that one section may be adjusted, whereby the drier may accommodate persons of different height.

In practical fields, the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.

The invention comprises further. features and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.

Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates a portion of a gas range and :2 designates the drier, which is L or elbow shaped in side elevation and rectangular in cross section and is constructed of any suitable sheet metal and is tubular, so that one end or the other may rest over a burner of any gas range. Both ends of the tubular drier are provided with fianges 3, annular in plan view and angular in cross section, which are secured to the ends of the tubular drier by means of rivets 4. By means of said flanges the tubular drier will rest evenly and squarely on the top of the gas range over the burner, whereby the heat therefrom will pass through the drier toward and upon the hair of the head of a person, who may sit in front of the drier. In the corner of the tubular drier a weight 5 is constructed, which will counter-balance the longer end portion of the tubular drier, when the flanged short end portion of the drier rest on over the burner of the gas range. The drier is provided with a handle G, thereby rendering it possible to remove the drier o-r move the same from one place to another.

In Figs. l and 5 the drier is constructed of two tubular sections 7 and 8, the section 7 being l. or elbow shaped, and the section 8 straight, which telescopes into either arm of the elbow section, whereby the flanged end 9 of the telescoping section may rest over the burner of the gas-range, so that the heat from the burner will pass through the drier. Each arm of the elbow section 7 is provided with a plurality of apertures 10. rlfhe section 8 on its interior is provided with a pivoted spring tensioned dog 11 having a nose pin 12, extending through an aperture 13 of the wall of the section 8, thereby engaging any one of the apertures 10, so as to hold the sections in adjusted positions relative to each other, whereby the drier may be used by persons of different heights. Gnly one end of the section 8 is provided with a flange 8a similar to the flange 3. The drier in Figs. l and 5 is also provided with a weight 5, so as to counter-balance the arm of the section 7, that may extend laterally.

Having set forth the invention, what is ,claimed as new and useful is:

i 1.. A hair drier comprising a tubular elbow having flanges at both ends, and one end or the other of said elbow being engageable upon the top of a range over the burner thereof, said elbow having a handle for handling the same. Y n

2. A hair drier comprising a tubular elbow, one end or the other of which being engageable upon the top of a range over the burner thereof and means in the corner of the elbow for counter-balancing the arm la thereof which extend laterally.
