Having thus described my invention what I claim es new and desire to secure by -Let ters Patent is l. In all'steam boiler of the. locomotiye or o like type, a shell formlng a gas producer and a ges combustion chamber, 'aconstricted passage connectlng said producer and combustion chamber, the walls or said pus:- sage bem 1n contact on all sides with the water of t e boiler, und means, for introchlcl' mg air for combustion, said nenne consish ing of twyers passing through the water space and projecting into said passage, said twyers being surrounded by water for sub stuntially the whole of their length from thc point where they entcr the shell of the boiler.

In a steam boiler of the locomotive or liketype, e, shell' forming a gas producer and a thereon7 said producer extending forwardly beyond the front of the combustion chamber, uy constricted passage directly connecting said producer und combustion chamber, the walls of said passage being in contact on all sides with the water of the boiler, and means, for introducing air for combustion, consisting of twyers passing through the water space and projecting into said passage, said tu'yers being surrounded by water for substantially the whole' of their length from the point where they enter the shell of the boiler.
