To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that T, SINGLETON SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Golf-Bags, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a partof this s ecification.

The invention relates to gol bags.

The invention is more particularly de-- signed to provide a golf bag which is reinforced at the portions where it is most necessary.

The invention is further designed to provide a golf bag in which the body portion is made of leather or fabric which is reinforced by metal strips and the bottom of which is of a strong and durable construction.

The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and is more particularly pointed out by claims at the conclusion hereof.

The bag comprises an open ended container having cylindrical casing 6 and a bottom 7. The casing 6 is formed of either leather or suitable fabric, such as canvas. This casing 6 is provided with spring metal reinforcing strips or ribs 8 extending along the sides thereof, each of said ribs beingsecured to said casing by strips 9 of leather or fabric whose edges 10 are stitched to the sides of the casing. These strips 9 and ribs 8 extend to the top of the bag Where they are secured to the collar 11 surrounding the top by rivets 12. A' -"strip of leather or fabric 13 is secured to the outer side of the bag and upon which the carrying handle 14: is

-mounted and also the lower end of the carrying strap 15 which is secured at its upper end to the to of the bag. A container 16 of any suitab e construction is mounted on the side of the bag for carrying the golf and means for reinforcin said bottom and securing the collar and p ate thereto. This means consists of a metal plate 19 having an upwardly extending annular flange 20 and rivets 20 or other suitable fastening means are passed through apertures 21 in said metal plate, through the collar 17 and the lower end of the casing to secure the parts together. The metal plate 19 is shown as being of annular form but this is for the purpose of eliminating weight as it may be a full plate and in either case it furnishes a reinforce to the bottom edges of the bag where it is most needed.

Rivets 22 or other suitable fastening means are passed through apertures 23 in the plate 19 and the plate 18 to secure said plate 18 thereto and in the bottom of the bag. With the construction above described when the bag is dragged along the ground by the user 7 as shown in Fig. 1 it will be apparent that ends 27 of the metal ribs 8 are passed through slits 28 made in the sides of the casing 6 in the lower portion thereof and extend downwardly, as shown in Fig. 5, so as to engage the top of the piece 26 near the edge thereof when said inner reinforcing member is pressed down into place against the bottom plate 18. The flexible ribs 8 permit said inner reinforce to be pushed down into place but when said reinforce passes below the ends of said ribs, they spring back and contact with the top of said reinforce and effectually prevent its accidental displacement.

The invention thus exemplifies a golf bag in which the sides and bottom are suitably reinforced to form a simple and durable construction.

What I claim as my invention is:

1. A golf bag comprising a casing of flexible material, metal reinforcing ribs secured to the outside of the casing and having their lower ends passing through the casing ne the lower end thereof, a reinforced bottom secured to the lower end of the casing, and an inner reinforcin plate disposed within the bottom and hel 1n place by the lower ends of said ribs.
