BOOEEIPER'S POSTING-GUIDE.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, lwlb.
Application filed April $0, 1916. Serial No. 92,3bl.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, PRns'roN P. Gonnon, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sorrento, in the parish of Ascension and State of Louisiana, have invented an Improvement in Bookkeepers Posting- Guides, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in indicating devices and has particular reference to a bookkeepers posting guide.
An object of the invention is to facilitate the location of items to be postedv or transferred from one book to another, and to this end the invention includes a pair of base plates hingedly connected and adapted to engage in the groove formed by the pages of a book when the same is opened, said plates having indicator supporting a extending therefrom and transversely of said pages;
Another object is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, easy to manufacture, and efi'ective in carrying out the purpose for which it is designed.
The inventive idea involved is capable of receiving a variety of mechanical expressions, one of which, for the purpose of illustrating the invention, is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- F1 re 1 is a perspective view of a book showlng th guide applied thereto and constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof. Fig. 3 is a section taken through the book showing the guide in edge elevation.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, in which like reference characters indicate similar parts, the numeral 5 indicates a book such as a ledger or other account book. When the leaves are turned to a certain place and the book is opened as shown in the figures, there is a groove formed between the opposite pages and the leaves, adjacent the binding, are rounded, as best illustrated in Fig. 3.
The guide, which forms the essential feature of the invention, consists of a pair of complemental base plates 6 of substantially rectangular formation, said plates being hingedly connected as indicated at 7 upon 5 their adjacent longitudinal edges. Each plate 6 is preferably made of flexible material and is bowed transversely so as to conform substantiallyto the rounded portions of the leaves previously described. The plates 6 are provided adjacent their outer or free longitudinal edges with outwardly curved finger pieces 8 which are adapted to be grasped by the operator in order to place the guide in positlon in the book, shift the same up and down the pages and also remove the guide when further employment thereof is unnecessary.
Medially of the ends of each plate 6 the same is provided with a reduced extension 9 the outer end of which has hingedly connected thereto, at 10, one end of a flexible indicator supporting arm 11. This arm is preferably of a length substantially equal to the width of a page of an ordinary ledger or other account book and has} slidably mounted thereon a number of indicators or pointers 12.
It will thus be seen from the foregoing description that when employing the guide the same may be shifted longitudinally of thepages to any particular line and any one or all of the indicators may. be shifted longitudinally of the supporting arms 11 so as to indicate any particular item which is desired to be posted or copied.
What is claimed is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising a pair of hingedly connected base plates bowed transversely and adapted to engage in the groove formed between opposite pages of a book, flexible elongated lndicator supporting arms hingedly connected at one end to the free longitudinal edges of said base plates, and indicators slidably mounted on said supporting arms.
2. A device of the, character described, comprising a pair of hingedly connected base plates bowed transversely and adapted to engage in the groove formed between opposite pages of a book, flexible elongated indicator supporting. arms hingedly connected at one end to the free longitudinal edges of said base plates, indicators slidably mounted on said supporting arms, and out-' wardly projecting finger grips formed upon said base plates.
