Description

M. J. CASEY.
GARMENT HANGER.
APPLICATION FILED FEB. 26. 1916.

- WITNESSES l/VVE/VTOR A TTOR/VEVS i i @A GARMENT-HANGER.
menace.
Application filed February 26, 1916. Serial No. 80,636.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that ll, MARK J. CASEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Richmond, in the county of St, Croix and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and "useful lfmprove- .ments in Garment-Hangers, of which the together with the garments, may be readily moved outwardly of the cabinet for garment display or removal, as in a store.
My invention is fully described in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which like characters refer to like parts in each of the views, and in which 7 Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of the front of a cabinet provided with my improved garment suspension means in gar ment storage position; Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 22 of Fig. '1; and Fig. 3 is a view similar to'Fig. '2 but with the garment suspension means partly withdrawn from the cabinet.
Referring to the drawings, 4 represents a cabinet of any desired form within which are brackets 5 arranged in each corner and serving as bearings for vertical rods or pipe sections 6 having elbows 7 connected with the upper ends thereof and resting upon the upper surfaces of the respective brackets and are adapted to be rotated thereon.
Each elbow 7 carries a horizontally arranged rod or pipe section 8 of equal lengths, the sections 8 at each end of the cabinetbeing joined by means of toggle levers 9 and 10 pivoted to the respective sections and to each other, as shown at 11' and 12, respectively.
The pivots'12 carry, each, a ring or eye 13 and through both of which is passed a horizontal rod 14;. extending approximately the full length of the cabinet and held in position with respect to the rings 13 by means of set screws 15.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 5, 19th.
The toggle levers 9 and 10 are offset so that the former rests upon the upper surface of the latter at the pivotal points therebetween and, because of the pivotal connec-' tionof the pipe sections 8 with the cabinet, and of the pivotal connection of the toggle levers therewith and with the respective ends of the rod 14, said rod may be withdrawn from the cabinet and thus carry any garments suspended therefrom forwardly of the cabinet for inspection or for removal.
Inasmuch as my hanger may be composed almost entirely of gas pipe or suitable equivalent, the cost thereof is very low, but I may, if desired, employ plated pipes or rods whereappearances warrant it, as well as plated brackets and toggle levers.
By means of this construction the gar- I ments suspended from the rod 14 are always maintained at a predetermined level and I may, if desired, use several sets of the hangers in one cabinet, as at difierent levels, or I may make the cabinet of greater length than shown and provide several sets of hangers on the same horizontal plane.
My invention is very simple though well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed a'nd, while I have shown my preferred form, it will be obvious that I may make changes thereover, provided that such changes come within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with a cabinet, of a plurality of brackets arranged in rectangular relationship with each other, a vertical member rotatable in each bracket, a horizontal member carried by each vertical member, toggle levers pivoted to the ends of each pair of horizontal members and to each other, a ring carried by each of said last named pivots, a rod carried by both rings, and a set screw in each ring bearing against said rod, said rod being adapted to have garments suspended therefrom.
