S ATES PATENT WILLIAM A. KREIDLER, OF LAKE BLUFF, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGN- MENTS, TO LACKAWANNA STEEL COMPANY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION 0F NEW YORK.
SHEET-FILING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Original application iiled July 17, 1905, Serial No. 269,927. Divided and this application led .Tune 4, 1906,
Serial No. 320,045.
To all Iwiz/0m,- z't may concern Be it known that I, lViLLmn Ar. KnnInLnn, citizen of the United Sta-tes, residing at Lake Bluff, in the county of Lake and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Sheet-Filing', of which the following' is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being' had to the accompanying drawings, forming' a part of this specification.
My invention relates to sheet piling, its object being to provide improved construction and arrangement of the sections composing it.
In the accompanying drawingl my invention is illustrated and the figure thereof shows the top 'View of my improved piling.
Each alternate section of the arrangement shown is an ordinary channel beam l. the other sections being' of special construction which forms the feature of my invention. Each of the beams 2 consists of a web or plate 3 having at each end a lateral projection l terminating in a hook These flanges may be on the same side of the web 3 and the hooks are turned outwardly. The flanges or lateral extensions #l are set inwardl,v a. distance from the ends of the web part, thus leaving a shelf or extension 6 below each hook and the 'flanges 7 of the sections 'l engage in the pockets formed by the hooks, flanges and extensions and the sections are thus rigidly locked together. The web or body part of the sections 1 are offset preferably the thickness of the extensions G, as shown, whereby the wall upon assembly of the sections will present a plane unbroken face. Other changes may also readily be made without departing; from the spirit of my invention and I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a sheet piling' wall, a section consisting` of a web provided at each end with a lateral extension terminating in a hook and a longitudinal extension below each Copies of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the Renewed. February 23, 1916. Serial No. 80,093.
hook forming a. continuation of the web of the section. and an adjacent section having a web provided at each end with a straight lateral projection for engagingwithin the hook and longitudinal projection of the first section, a section of the web of the second section opposite the straight .lateral projection being' offset the thickness of the longitudinal projection of the first section. to form a recess for receiving said longitudinal projection whereby the wall presents a plane unbroken face,
2. A sheet piling wall composed of main sections having lateral extensions with hooked ends extending from the web adj acent to but a short dist-ance within the latneral edges of the web, and angle beams adapted to engage with the hooks and hav- ,ing the ends of their webs offset about to correspond to the thickness of the main section web.
3. A sheet piling` wall composed of main sections and of intermediate sections, both of said sections consisting' of substantially straight webs with interlocking' elements at both edges of the web, the interlocking' ele ments of the main section consisting' of' lateral extensions having hooked ends and of longitudinal extensions below each hook, and the interlocking,` elements of the intermediate Sections consisting' of straight lateral extensions adapted to engage in the recesses formed by the hooked extensions and the longitudinal extensions of the main sections, the ends of one of said sections being oil'set so that the webs of both the main and the intermediate sections shall be in the same plane when the sections are assembled in the wall.
In witness whereof, l hereunto subscribe my name this 2nd day of .Tune A. D., 1906.
