Description

CHARLES VENN, Improvement in Bathing Apparatus. 5 No. 120,555. TNXM Patented on. amen.
w; RM
UNITED STATES CHARLES VENN, OF KASTNERSVILLE, CANADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN BATHING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,555, dated October 31, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES VENN, of Kastnersville, in the county of Perth and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Bathing Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing Figure 1 represents a longitudinal vertical section of this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a bathing apparatus, a
which consists of a case provided, on its top with a supply-tank from which the water is conducted to the interior of the case by two pipes, one of which is divided in two branches, each of which terminates in a rose, and which branches are made in two parts, allowing of drawing the roses in or out, or of turning them up or down in such a manner that by means of one of the pipes the water can be directed upon the head of a person in the case, while the jets of water discharging from the roses can be directed 011 the breast or other parts of the body beneath the head, and thereby the person inclosed in the case has perfect control over the direction of the jets.
In the drawing, A designates a case made in the form of an ordinary wardrobe, or in any other desirable form or shape. On the top of this case is a tank, B, which is lined with sheet metal, and the bottom of which is inclined toward the back of the case, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing. In the bottom of the case is also secured a tank, 0, by preference made of sheet metal, and provided with a bottom which is inclined toward the front. From the supply-tank B extend two pipes, D E, into the case A, each of said pipes being provided with a stop-cock, so that it can be opened or closed at pleasure by the person occupying the case. The pipe D terminates in a simple spout, a, through which a stream of water can be directed on the head or any other part of the body of the person in the case. The pipe E divides in two or more branches, 1) b, in the inner end of each of which is fitted a rose, a, with a curved shank which is inserted into its branch b, so that the rose can be readily turned up or down, or that it can be drawn in or out, and thereby the person in the case is enabled to direct the jets of water discharging from the roses upon any part of his or her body. By this arrangement the bath can be truly enjoyed, and in many cases where it is desirable to direct the jets 'of water upon any particular part of the body this object can be accomplished with ease and facility. The spent water accumulates in the bottom tank (3, whence it discharges through a pipe, at, extending from the lowest part of said tank, and leading into the sink or into the open air, or in any suitable receptacle which can be carried out and emptied.
By these means a bathing apparatus is obtained which can be used with propriety in any room, and which is of great convenience for everybody who likes to enjoy a pleasant bath.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The pipe E having two or more branches, 1) b, in combination with the adjustable roses or nozzles 0, arranged substantially as set forth.
2. The combination of the tank B, pipe E, arms I) b, roses 0, pipe D, and spout a, arranged substantially as described.
CHARLES VENN.
