LADBROOK I-I. FREEMAN, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE GUGGENHEIM LAUNDRY MACHINERY COMPANY, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
IRONING-PLATE.
Application led January 2, 1912.
1o all whom t may concern Be it known that I, LADBRooK H. FREE- AmN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ironing- Plates, of which the following is a specification.
At the presenttime, there is a great desire for what is known as the domestic or flat finish on shirt bosoms, collars and cuffs, and this finish is very difiicult to produce by the ordinary7 methods of ironing, since the ironing plate ordinarily7 used has a hard more or less smooth surface which when under pressure and heat, causes the starch tol cook with a gloss and finish which is undesirable.
The present invention, therefore, relates to an ironing plate for use in laundry machines and adapted to produce a fiat domestic finish without gloss or polish.
`More specifically the invention conteniplates the use of an ironing plate having an ironing surface which is pitted to form minute projections and recesses which when utilized upon shirts or linen generally produces a flat domestic finish without polish or gloss.
The invention may be further briefly summarized as consisting in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth in the following description, drawings and claims.
referring to the drawings, Figure l is a view of the plate in position for use with a shirt beneath it; Fig. 2 is a vie-w of the underside of the plate, and Fig. 3 is a section through a portion of the plate.
In carrying out the invention any pre- V ferred form or construction of plate may be employed so long as it is susceptible of being utilized in the laundry machine, and such a plate is shown in the drawings and is represented by 1. This plate is provided with an ironing surface having projections 2 and recesses 3 over the entire ironing surface Specification of Letters Patent.

serial No. 668,882.
Since the ends of the neck band fold over at the front, the curved edge at the recess is notched at 6 to provide a projection which extends up beyond the outer end and against the neck band as clearly shown, the object being to press the bosom portions of the shirt tightly about the neck band at all points.
In producing the surface upon the ironing plate, a sheet of metal is subjected to the action of a coarse sand blast and is then nickel plated to cover, as it were, the sharp points or abrupt projections which result from the sand blast.
Having described m-y invention, I claim l. A pressing plate having an ironing face provided with irregular projections and recesses for producing an unglossed or flat finish upon the work.
2. An ironing pla-te for laundr machines having a sand blasted metal ironing surface for producing an unglossed or flat dead finish upon the work.
3. An ironing plate having a substantially U shaped recess for receiving the neckband, the edges of the material at the crotch of the U being curved and forming separate arcs so that the edges may form a shoulder whereby the edges of the plate will follow the contour of a lapped neckband.
Je An ironing plate having an ironing face provided with minute metallic projections with intervening spaces for producing an unglossed or fiat finish upon the work.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
