TRUCK ATTACHMENT FOR GRAIN-BINDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. BURNS, residing at Perth, in the county of Sumner and State of Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Truck Attachment for Grain- Binders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive attachment adapt- .ed for being readily attached to a gr-ain binder frame for operative connection with the ground or driving wheel when the machine is being worked on wet or muddy ground to lighten and equalize the direct pull on the machine and to minimize the side or lateral strains on the ground wheel and the frame when the binder is in use.`
With other objects in view that will hereinafter appe-ar, my invention consists in the peculiar arrangement of parts all of which will be hereinafter explained, specifically pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated -in the accompanying drawings, iii which:

In the drawing, in which like numerals indicate like p-arts in all of the igures, l designates a portion of the binder truck on which the ground or driving wheel 2 is mounted, and 34 indicate pendent lugs on the frame located one at each side of the axial line of the said ground wheel.
My improved attachment is in the n-ature of a yoke frame that consists of the flat cross b-ar 3 and the round side members 30 whose ends are bent at right angles to form stub axles 3l for receiving the wheel hubs 32-32, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The attachment 3 is adapted for being removably connected to the front cross beam 10 of the binder frame 1 and its side members 30 are of such length that they extend back to the axial line of the ground wheel 2 so that the supplemental or truck wheels travel in transverse alii'iement with the ends of the said wheel 2 to thereby form lateral supports at the opposite sides of the ground wheel 2.
For conveniently applying my attachment, I have provided two clip members 4 in the nature of U-shaped members that hang over the cross beam l0 to which they are clamped by the bolts 4l and whose lower ends are shaped to embrace the outer face and the upper and lower edges of the arch member 30, the said lower ends of the clips also including a projecting portion 33 that extends back and engages the lower edge of the cross beam 10, as is clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing. To further brace the arch axle or yoke frame, brackets 5 are provided, the lower ends ot' which are crotclied to seat onto the stub axles of the yoke frame and whose upper ends are shaped to engage the pendent lugs on the frame l to which they are secured by the bolts 50, as best shown in Fig. 3.
By reason of mounting the yoke frame in the manner described and shown, both ends of the attachment when applied for use, will be fxedly held relatively to the frame since the vertical strains on the front end of the attachment are taken up by the front clamps that have portions for gripping over the front fiat bar of the yoke frame and projected under the lower edge of the frame beam l0. The rear ends (the axle portion) of the yoke are firmly held against vertical strains by the brackets that fit over the axles 3l and are clamped to the pendent lugs 34 on the frame at each side of the ground wheel.
From the foregoing` description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the construction, the manner of its application, and the advantages of my invention will be readily clear to those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
By reason of providing an arched axle or yoke member having truck wheels as shown and forming the arched axle in the manner stated and described, the said attachment may be readily connected to any binder and held in rigid position relatively to the binder frame and the ground wheel by means of four clip or clamp devices can be quickly secured to or removed from the binder frame and the side lugs thereof, as
stated.
What I claim is 1. The combination with a grain binder frame, the said frame including a front cross beam and side beams, a ground Wheel mounted on said frame; of a Yoke frame that comprises a cross bar adapted for fitting upon and to extend over the ends of the said front cross beam, and side members integral with the said cross bar, each of the said side members including a stub axle, a truck Wheel on each of the said stub axles, the said stub axles being in transverse alinement with the ground Wheel when the attachment is operatively connected to the binder frame, and means for removably securing the said cross bar of the yoke and the side arms of said yoke to the binder frame, said means including clips pendently supported from the cross bar of the frame, said clips having portions for embracing the cross bar of the yoke frame whereby to hold the said frame from vertical motion, clamp devices for securing the clips to the binder frame, and other means for securing the axle end portion of the side end members of the yoke frame against vertical motion, the said means including brackets having forked lower ends that straddle the stub axles and upper members for joining the fame.
2. In an attachment for grain binders, the combination with the ground Wheel and the supporting frame therefor, the said frame including a cross beam located in front of the ground Wheel; of a yoke-like frame that includes a flat cross bar removably mounted on the front cross beam of the binder frame and Whose ends extend beyond the ends of the said cross beam, side arms integral With the said cross bar that terminate in stub axles, the said axles being in transverse alinement with the ground WheelV axle, means for ixedly holding the cross bar and the stub axle ends of the yoke frame in a relatively rigid connection With the ground Wheel frame and truck Wheels on the said stub axles.
3. In an attachment for grain binders, the combination with a ground Wheel and the frame therefor, the said frame including a cross beam located in front of the ground Wheel; of a yoke-like frame that includes a fiat cross bar removably mounted on the front cross beam of the binder frame and Whose ends extend beyond the endsv of the said cross beam, side arms integral With the said cross bar that terminate in stub axles, the said axles being in transverse alinement With the ground Wheel axle, clips for engaging the front cross beam of the ground Wheel frame, said clips having seats for receiving the flat cross bar of the yoke frame, and a member that extends under and engages the front cross beam of the ground Wheel frame and brackets secured to the side members of the ground Wheel frame having portions for engaging and holding down the stub axle of the yoke frame.

and truck Wheels on the said stub axles.
