which may be operated readily and conveniently and with a minimum effort on the part of the operator and wherein the component parts will be so arranged and correlated as to readily respond to the efforts of the operator and reduce the possibility of derangement to a minimum.
With the above and other objects in view,

combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a hoisting device constructed in accordance with my present invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary edge elevation of one of the legs of the apparatus. Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged vertical sectional view on the line 44 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the guide block and dog pivoted thereto. Fig. 6 is a perspective view showing one of the straps employed for lifting animals.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, 1, 1 designate A-shaped end frames, while 2 indicates a longitudinal connecting bar connecting the frames 1, 1 at the apices thereof and 3, 3 designate longitudinal connecting bars connecting the legs of the A-frames to each other and cooperating with the bar 2 to render the device stable and strong so as to efl'ectively fasten any load placed thereon. Fastened to the opposite sides of each leg of each frame 1 are metal plates 4, 4 and the outer edges of the plates 1, 4 project beyond the adjacent edge of the leg and are formed with teeth 5, the teeth on the outer edge of one plate alining respectively with the teeth on the other plate. Slidably mounted upon the outer edge of each leg of each frame between the outwardly projecting edges of the plates 4, l is a guide block 6 and formed on the upper end of the block 6 is an eye 7, while pivotally connected with the outer surface of the plate 6 adjacent to thelower end thereof by means of a pin 8 is a casting 9 having the lower longitudinal. edge thereof formed with a sleeve 10 extend ing across the leg, and with inwardly extending dogs 11, 11 coacting with the teeth 5 on the outer edges of the respective plates 4. Secured to corresponding sides of the legs of each frame 1 adjacent to the apex of such frame are sheaves 12, 12 respectively and trained over the sheaves 12, 12 is a cable 13 or other flexible element having the extremities thereof secured to the eyes 7 of the blocks 6 sliding upon the adjacent legs respectively, and the central portion thereof depending between the legs of the frame and carrying a pulley block 14 equipped with a hook 15. Associated with each casting 9 and adapted to be inserted in the sleeve 10 thereon is an operating bar 16 whereby the casting may be swung about its pivotal connection with the guide block 6.
In practice, the guide blocks 6 are moved toward the upper ends of the respective legs of the A-shaped frames, thereby lowering the pulley blocks 14 and hooks 15 at the ends of the hoisting device. The hooks 15 are now engaged with the object to be lifted and the rods 16 inserted in the sleeves 10 of the respective castings 9. Each casting is adapted to be swung in one direction under the action of the rod 16 and when swung one end thereof moves downwardly to engage the dog 11 on such end with the next lowest tooth and when such dog is in engagement with the tooth, the casting is swung in the opposite direction to move the other end thereof downwardly and in this rocking of the castings 9, the blocks 6 are moved downwardly with the effect to pull upon the cables 13 and so elevate the blocks 1 1 and the load on the hooks 15.
The lower end of each leg is preferably equipped with a plate 1 adapted to bite into the support for the lifting apparatus whereby such apparatus will be held against accidental shifting. Extending across each pair of plates 4 adjacent to the upper ends thereof is a bar 4 having the ends thereof secured to the respective plates and the central portion formed with an eye 5 through which the cable 13 passes, such eye acting as a guide for the cable.
While I have herein shown and described the preferred form of my invention by way of illustration, 1 Wish it to be understood that I do not limit or confine myself to the precise details of construction herein described and delineated, as modification and variation may be made within the scope of the claims and without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. Hoisting apparatus comprising A- shaped frames, means connecting said frames to hold the same spaced apart, guide blocks slidably mounted upon the outer edges of the legs respectively of each frame, sheaves secured to the respective legs of each frame adjacent to the apex thereof, a cable trained over said sheaves and having the ends thereof connected to said guide blocks and the central portion depending between the legs of the frame, a pulley block on the central portion of said cable adapted to be connected to the load, and means for moving said guide blocks downwardly along the legs to lift the load on the pulley blocks.
2. Hoisting apparatus comprising A- shaped frames, means connecting said frames to hold the same spaced apart, guide blocks slidably mounted upon the outer edges of the legs respectively of each frame, sheaves secured to the respective legs of each frame adjacent to the apex thereof, a cable trained over said sheaves and having the ends thereof connected to said guide blocks and the central portion depending between the legs of the frame, a pulley block on the central portion of said cable adapted to be connected to the load, and manually operable means for moving said guide blocks downwardly along said legs to elevate said pulley blocks and the load thereon.
3. Hoisting apparatus comprising a frame embodying legs, toothed plates secured to the opposite sides of each leg and having the toothed edges thereof projecting outwardly beyond the adjacent edge of the leg, guide blocks slidable between the toothed edges of said plates, sheaves mountedupon said legs respectively above said plates, a cable having the extremities thereof trained over said sheaves, and connected to said guide blocks, apulley block carried by the central portion of said cable'and adapted to receive the load,-a casting pivotally connected to each guide block and formed With dogs engageable with the teeth of the respective toothed plates, and means for rocking said casting to engage the dogs with the next lowest teeth of the respective plates alternately whereby said guide blocks may be moved downwardly to elevate the pulley block carried by said cable.
