Be it known that I, LEROY GARRISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chester, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and use ful Improvements in Gas-Range Tops, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to gas range tops, and more particularly to the class of adjustable safety gas range tops.

The primary object of the invention is the provision of a range top of this character wherein the necessity of reaching over the burners of a gas stove is eliminated as the top can be readily turned so as to bring the receptacle thereon in close proximity to the operator or attendant, thus avoiding the possibility of burning and the labor required in the lifting of the receptacle from over one burner to the other of the gas stove.

Another object of the invention is the provision of a top of this character wherein the construction of the same is novel in form and can be readily and conveniently mounted upon a stove so that the cooking receptacle or utensil need not be lifted to inspect the contents thereof or for changing the same from one burner to the other.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a top of this character wherein the same can be readily locked in adjusted position to avoid the accidental turning of the top during the cooking process, the top being of novel form and readily and easily adjusted.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of a top of this character which is simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in operation, strong, durable and inexpensive of manufacture.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a top plan view of a stove top embodying the invention; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 22 in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view showing the top removed from the spider or support; and Fig. 1 is an edge elevation.

Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates generally the upper portion of a gas range which is of the ordinary well known construction, having the burners B and C, respectively, the latter burners being used for keeping cooked substances warm,

wardly protruding handles 11 which permit 1 the turning of the section 10 in a convenient manner, while formed centrally on this section is a boss 12 from which projects a center spindle 13 which is adapted to be rotatably mounted in a hub 14 centrally of a support- 1 ing spider including a plurality of arms 15, which are arranged opposite each other and extend radially from the said hub, one of the arms 15 being formed with openings or holes 16, through which are projected the burners C, while another of the said arms 15 is formed with bearings 17 in which is mounted a latch rod 18 having surrounding the same a coiled spring 19 which acts upon the said rod to normally throw the same into locking engagement in any one of a series of sockets 20 formed in the periphery of the boss 12 for the locking of the dislrlike section 10 in its adjusted position.

The outer end of the rod 10 is formed with a handle 21 to permit the convenient release thereof for unlocking the section 10 for the turning thereof. Formed in the disk-like section 10 are a series of inner and outer small and large holes 22 and 23 respectively, which are adapted to be brought into position to expose the burners B and C. Supplementing the inner smaller holes 22 is a series of outer small holes 24 which are arranged alternately with respect to the holes 28 and these holes 24 are adapted to expose the outermost burner C, as will be clearly obvious.

The supporting spider is positioned upon the body of the stove A and is fastened thereto in any suitable manner for supporting the top section 10, which is readily adjustable and can be locked in its adjusted position.

It will be noted that when a receptacle or utensil is placed over one or any of the holes in the sections 10 and it is desired to change the position of the receptacle or utensil it will be only necessary to unlock the section 10 and rotate the same by hand, which shifts the receptacle or utensil over the desired burner.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection With the accompanying drawings, the construction and manner of operation of my improved gas range top will be readily understood and, therefore, a more extended explanation has been omitted.

A gas range top comprising a spider adapted to be detachably mounted upon the range and having a centrally apertured boss, a disk like section forming an adjustable top and having a stud rotatably fitted Within the boss, extensions at the periphery of the section and diametrically opposite each other to provide handles, guide lugs formed on the spider, a socket-ed enlargement formed centrally on the under face of the disk, and a spring held latch rod slidable in the bearing and engageable in any one of the sockets in the enlargement to hold the section locked against movement.
