HENRY PEBLMAN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ELECTRIC PACK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. '7, 1916.
Application filed March 17, 1914. Serial No. 825,360.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY PERLMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric Packs, of'which'the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in electric packs, and has for its object to construct a device of this character in such manner that the distance between the sides may be varied considerably without materially reducing the height.
Another object of the invention is to provide an electric pack comprising a body having side members hinged thereto in such a manner that the side members may be adjusted to vary the distance therebetween without materially changing the distance between the body, and the lower ends of the side members.
A further object of the invention is to provide an electric pack consisting of a body or crown having a side section or member hinged to each end thereof so that said side sections may be adjusted with relation to each other to vary the space between them without materially reducing the space between the body or crown, and the object on which the device is resting and without changing the contour of the body or crown section.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a body or crown having sides adjustably attached thereto whereby the inclosed space may be varied without changing the contour of the body.
With these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by I the claims.
In carrying out my invention as here embodied 2 represents the body or crown of the electric pack which is arcuate in shape or curved longitudinally and comprises a pair of arcuate or bowed ribs or flanges 3, spaced apart and held in their relative positions by the cross pieces 4, the ends of the latter beng bent at right angles and secured to the inner faces of theflanges adjacent the ends thereof by any suitable means such as screws 5 and a cover or roof 6, curved in cross section, the opposite edges of which are fastened to the cross pieces 4 as by screws 7. The roof, 6 preferably consists of a sheet of asbestos 8 underlying a protecting and stiifenmg wall 9 of metal. The body or crown carries a handle '10 secured thereto in any suitable and well known manner.
The sides are designated by the numeral 11 and are constructed in the same manner as the body or crown 2, each comprising the flanges 3, the cross pieces 4 and cover or roof 6. v
To each end of the body or crown 2 is hinged or otherwise adjustably attached a side member 11 by any suitable and well known means here shown as comprising bolts"- 12 or their equivalent which pass through the overlapping flanges of the body and side members and have nuts 13, preferably of the butterfly type, threaded on their outer ends.
After the side members have been adjusted the nuts 13 are jammed against the outer flanges to hold said side members in their adjusted positions.
In the inner faces of the flanges 3 are mounted a number of electric lamp sockets 14 which are connected with each other and with a conductor cord 15 by means of wires 16, said wires and cord having a suitable switch 17 interposed therebetween so that the electrical current 'may be turned on or oil"; The sockets are preferably wired in serieswhereby the electrical current may be turned into all or a certain number of the sockets.
In the sockets 14 are placed the electric lamps 18 which when the device is in use, and the electrical current is turned on, will generate sufficient heat to bake a portion of a patients body for relieving or curing certain bodily diseases.
By constructing an electric pack in accordance with my improvements it is possible to vary the distance between the side members without materially changing the position of the body and without changing the contour of said body, which is impossible with bakers that are made of only one or two.
members. I
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is .1 In a device of the character stated an arcuate body comprising a pair of arcuate flanges, cross pieces for spacing said flanges and holding them in their relative positions, an inclosing wall, the opposite edges of which are secured to the cross pieces, sockets mounted on the 'inner'faces of the flanges, electric lamps mounted in said sockets, a pair of side members, each comprising a pair of flanges, cross pieces secured to said flanges adjacent their ends and an inclosing wall, the edges of which are secured to said cross pieces, sockets mounted on the inner faces of said flanges, electric lamps mounted in said sockets, means for hingedly connecting the side pieces with the ends of the body,
wires connecting the different sockets, a conductor cord connected with said wires and a switch interposed between said wires and the conductor cord.
2. An electric pack comprising an arched body or crown, side members hingedly connected to the ends of said body and means carried by the body and side members for heating the interior thereof.
3. An electric pack comprising an arcuate or arched body or crown, a pair of oppo- ',-sitely disposed arcuate side members hingedly secured to said body or crown, means for hinging said side members to the body crown and means for heating the interior thereof.
4. An electric pack comprising an arcuate or arched body or crown, an arcuate side member hinged to each end of said body, said side members being adjustable toward or away from each other to vary the distance therebetween, means for holding said side members in their adjusted positions and means carried by the body and side members for heating the interior thereof.
5. An electric pack comprising three arcuate members hinged together, whereby the central member becomes the crown of the arch formed by said members, said crown member being so arranged with relation to the other members as to form a solid wall between said members, and electric light bulbscarried by said members for heating the interior thereof.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto affixed my signature'in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY PERLMAN.
