Description

J. ALDEN. ELECTRIC BED WABMERf APPLICATION FILED MAY 13, 1910.
Patented Oct. 3, 1911.
poses and consists in JOHN ALDEN, OF BOISE, IDAHO.
ELECTRIC BED-WARNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. :3; 1911.
Application filed May 13, 1910. Serial No. 561,102.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I. JonN ALDEN, a citizen'of the l mited States, residing, at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric l3edlV-.1i'n1e1's, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved electric bed warmer which may be also used as a foot warmer and for other analogous purthe construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings z Figure 1 is an elevation of an electric bed warmer constructed in accordance with my inven tion. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal, sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the same.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a drum, casing or body 1 which is preferably and is here shown as cylindrical in formand which may be of any other suitable shape. The said drum, body or casing is made of sheet metal and has a head :2 permanently secured at one end. The said casing, body or drum is covered on its outer side by some suitable non-conducting substancesuch as asbestos. as indicated at 3, the said asbestos covering extending also over the fixed head 2 as at "l: and on the inner side of the said fixed head is a similar non-heat conducting covering The body, casing or drum is provided also with a removable head 6 which has a cylindrical flange 7 to lit in the end of said body, casing or drum and the said detachable. head is also covered on its outer side with asbestos or other suitable non'conducting fabric or material as at 8 and is provided with a suitable number of air inlet openings 9. On the inner side of the fixed head 2 is a nonconducting base 10 having a socket portion 11 'for the reception of the neck portion of an electric lamp 12 of usual construction, the said base and socket being also of the usual construction used in connection with electric lamps. The said base 10 is secured to the fixed head of the body, drum or casing by means of bolts 13 and flexible in- Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each,
sulated electric conductors 14 are secured to the terminals of the base to pass through an insulating eye or plug 15 which is screwed 111 an opening in the fixed head. The said electric conductors 1+ are for attaclmtent to any source of electricity in the usual manner so as to cause electric current to be supplied to the lamp so that the air in the body. drum or casing will be heated and said body, drum or casing will become heated so that it may be used as a bed warmer or as a foot warmer or for other analagous purposes, the tiexible electric conductors enabling the device to be moved about as required when in use.
My improved electric bed warmer may be connected to the usual electric fixtures in a house or may be connected to a storage battery or other source of electricity according to the location in which the device is to be used ould it be desired to use the incandescent lampfor illuminating purposes, such as a nurses lamp is used for, the head or closure 6 may be removed without disturb ing the lamp or its connections; the body of the warmer serving as a shield for the light rays and as a rigid support for the lamp.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed, is
In combination. an imperforate casing having an end wall with an opening, a lampholding socket mounted on the end wall and projecting inwardly thereof, an electrical incandescent lamp removably secured to the socket and inclosed by the casing, feed Wires extending through the opening of the end wall and into the socket, and a head having a single opening therein and snugly fitted in the casing, the opening in said head being in line with the lamp, said casing consisting of a metal body and a covering of asbestos.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN ALDEN.
Witnesses C. C. HIGBY, E. W. J ones.
