To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. ToLLuY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ilion, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and-1A useful Improvements in Wave-Motors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to wave motors and has for its object to provide a motor of this character of improved and simplified construction embodying a plurality of pivoted bucket shaped members, a crank shaft and rods connecting the crank shaft with the bucket members, whereby oscillatory movement of the latter is transmitted to the crank shaft and converted into a rotary motion.
lVith this and other objects in view, the'y invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the motor complete, and Fig. 2 represents a side elevation thereof.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates a sea wall preferably constructed of cement or other similar and durable plastic material and arranged along a coast. A plurality of piles 6 are arranged in vertically disposed pairs in front of the wall 5 and are connected adjacent their lower ends by braces (ifL and a bucket shaped member 7 is pivotally mounted at 7a between each pair of piles 6. A shaft 10 is rotatably mounted-in suitable bearing members 10a supported upon a base arranged rearwardly of the wall 5 and the shaft l0 is provided with a plurality of cranks 11 corresponding in number to the number of buckets 7 and connected with the latter by connecting rods 12 having their forward extremities pivotally secured between pairs of ears 9 carried by the convex walls of the bucket members 7. It will be understood that the wall 5 is formed with a plurality of openings through which the driving or connecting rods 12 extend.
A shaft 14 is rotatably supported rearwardly of the sea wall 5 and is operably connected with a dynamo 15 or other machine to be driven by the wave motor. The shafts 10 and 14 are provided with cranks connected by pitinen 13. The several cranks 11 on the shaft 10 are arranged at various angles and thus the movement of the several bucket members 7 continuously drives the shaft l0.
What I claim is:
A wave motor including a wall, a base formed integrally with the rear face of the wall, a driven shaft supported on the base, brackets supported upon the base, and located between the wall and the motor, a second shaft journaled in the upper ends of the brackets, said second shaft provided with a plurality of cranks arranged at various angles, a plurality of piles arranged in pairs and located in the front of said wall, bucket members pivotally mounted between said piles, connecting rods extending through said wall and having one end connected to the buckets and their opposite ends connected .to the various angled cranks of the second named shaft, means connecting the second named shaft with the motor shaft, said various angles of the cranks holding the buckets at various inclinations so that a rotary movement of the second named shaft is assured.
