To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, FRANK M. FARGO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, and GEORGE L. THoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new, and useful Improvements in Alarms; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to alarms such as burglar alarms or the like, and more particularly to that type wherein a detonation is had when a moving part, such as a door or window is changed from its relative position with respect to a fixed part, such as a door frame.

An object of this invention is to provide an alarm which may be easily applied to the moving and stationary dow or the like.

A further object of this invention is a provision of an alarm having parts thereof detachably mounted. a

A further object of this invention is a provision of a detonating alarm having one portion thereof to sound upon restricted movement of the movable and fixed ends, and then a second or more detonation upon continued movement of one of the fixed ends with respect to the other.

A further object of this invention is a provision of fastening means which may be permanently applied to the relative parts of closures such as doors, windows or the like, of which one of the fastening means is at tached to the fixed part of the closure and the other fastening means is attached to the moving part of the closure and a detachable alarm carried by said fastening means.

Further objects will be apparent from the following specification, appended claims and drawings thereof, in which Figure 1 indicates a corner of a room, having a door and window in the wall thereof, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one form of alarm.

An alarm of this kind is applicable to the sealing of doors, windows or other types of closures against malicious opening and its parts of a door, winapplication will be appreciated as for lockers, hotels, residences and the like, because provlsion is made by which the alarm may be properly positioned to afford protection when so desired and otherwise, the alarm may be removed from its fastening means so that the same alarm may be used repeatedly until it has served as an alarm at which time, it is only necessary to replace the detonating portion.

Referring to the drawings, there is shown a door frame 10 having the door 11 hinged therein and said door having a knob 12 by which the latch may be manipulated. Attached to the door and door frame are the fastening tabs 13 between which the alarm is suspended and this alarm comprises tabs 14- which are engageable with the tabs 13 and between the tabs 14 and connected thereto are one or more detonating alarms 15. These alarms 15 are of that type commonly used as favors for parties in which tension applied to the opposite ends of tapes establishes frictional engagement between the fastened ends of said tape and thereby creates the explosion. When it is applied, as shown in the drawings herewith, for obvious reasons it may be desired to provide the alarm as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, in which the tabs 14 are connected by twe alarms of different lengths so that as tension is applied by moving the tabs 13 apart, one alarm is sounded and continued movement sounds the second alarm so that should one alarm fail to awaken a sleeper, the second one will accomplish its purpose as is readily understood. For use in a residence, by adding another alarm or as many as desired, it is possible to distinguish between the sealing alarms at the front or rear of the house by the number of detonations.

The same device may be applied to the window as shown, in having one of the tabs 13 attached to the sash and the other attached to the frame as shown, so that as the sash is raised, tension is applied to the tapes 16 to sound the alarm 15. It may be desired to use invisible connections between the tabs 14 and alarms 15 and this feature is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing in which the connection comprises threads 16. Tabs 13 may be of any desired material and will preferably have the opposite faces thereof gummed at points indicated on the drawing so that each tab may be used more than once if so desired.

Having thus described this invention, We claim 1. In an alarm of the class described, fastening means for attachment to the relatively moving parts of a closure, a removable alarm detachably connected to said fastening means, said alarm comprising a plurality of units of different lengths to 8X plode successively when continued tension is exerted by the fastening means of said alarm.

In an alarm of the class described, fastening tabs for attachment to the relatively moving parts of a closure, said tabs having the opposite faces thereof gummed, said tabs extending beyond the gummed portions thereof, each of said extensions having an opening therein, detonating alarms detachably carried by said tabs, said alarms having heads for engagement in the openings Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by Washington, D. 3. In an alarm of the class described, tabs for attachment to the separable parts of a closure, alarms carried by said tabs, said alarms comprising sections of diiierent lengths to be successively broken as said tabs are moved apart.
