OF DENVER, COLORADO.
CLOTHES-LINE TIGHTENER AND SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 2%, 1916,
Application filed February 23, 1916. Serial No. 79,925.
1 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES M. PHELPS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Line Tightencrs and Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in clothes line tighteners and supports, one object of the invention being the provision of a device which will permit the line to be readily tightened and will then support it in such position.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a simple, durable and inexpensive device of this character, such device being thorcughly efficient and practical in use.
In the accompanying; drawings :Figure 1 is a view showing the device in use. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the up per end of a prop carrying my invention, the parts being in released position. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the parts locked.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the prop, upon the upper end of which is fitted a metal cap 6, which carries two parallel oppositely disposed L-shaped or hooked spaced pins 7, while securing the cap in place in the screw eye 8, to which is attached the hook 9.
In use the clothes line 10 is placed between the pins, and the prop is then rotated, winding the slack line about the pins as shown in Fig. 2, and when the line is tigl'itened sufficiently, the hook 9 is placed upon the line, as shown in Fig. 2, thus holding the prop from unwinding.
Thus with a device of this character the slack of the clothes line is removed, and the line is properly propped.
What I claim as new is A clothes line support comprising a prop adapted to be rotatably mounted, a cap fitted on the uppermost end of the prop, a pair of inverted substantially L-sha'ped members arranged in spaced relation to each other and fixed within the cap and adapted to receive therebetween a clothes line which on the rotation of the prop will wrap portions there of about the members, an eye fixed in the cap at one side thereof, and a hook loosely connected with the eye and engageable with one portion of the line to prevent the unwrapping thereof from said members.
In' testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES M. PHELPS.
