Specification of Letters Patent.v
Patented Unt. 254i, lilith Application tiled March 9, 193.4. Serial No. 823,332.
To all flo/1,0m t may concern.'
Be it known that l, JOHN fr, Srrnie, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 739 Taylor avenue, Avalon, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have 'invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Angle-Cock Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and'exact description, suoli as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same', reference being had to the ac companying drawings, forming part of this specilication. l
The object of. the present invention is to provide an angle cock holder of simple form, which will, when applied to a car, prevent both the rotation and longitudinal movement of the angle cock, and which will also insure the proper inclination of said angle cock relative to said car. I
Referring now to the drawings in which like reference characters refer to like parts and in which-- Figure'i shows a portion of the end of a car with the angle vcock holder mounted thereon; Fig. 2 is a sectional View thereof; Fig. 3 is a detail. view of the angle cock holder, and Fig. 4: is a side elevational view thereofu Referring now in. detail to the drawings, l
i indicates an angle cock having the ordinary hexagonal portion 2 to which the train pipe 3 is connected.
l indicates a portion of an angle cock holder which is preferably in the form of a bracket, having a substantially vertical flange 6 which may be secured. to the end portion Y of .a car, and also having a sub stantially horizontal flange 8, the underside of which is adapted to engage the hexagonal portion 2 of the angle cock and assist in pre-' venting such angle cock from rotating. The flange 8 is providedwith a downwardly depending portion 9 which is adapted to en.M gage the face 10 of the hexagonal portion 2 of the angle cock, and when in such engagement, will prevent longitudinal. movement of the angle cock in one direction, and to prevent longitudinal movement in the opposite direction, a member 1l preferably of U forni is provided which passes around the train pipe 3 and is adapted to cngage the face 12 of the hexagonal portion 2 of the angle cock, such member il being se cured to the holder suitable means.
The U shaped membei` l1, which forms a portion of the complete angle cock holderyis adapted, when secured to the bracket 1nember 4, to engage the sult clamp one face of the hexagonal portion 2 of the angle cock in'close contact with the undersurface of the portion S of the holder 4, and when held in such Contact will prevent the angle cook from rotating.
rlhe flange (l, hereinbcfore described as being vertical, may be of any other forni suitable for application to the end of a car of a, `type diii'erent from that shown in the dran7m el by nuts 13 or any other 55 train pipe and as a re- 6o ings. This flange 6 may also extend hori- 7o zontally and be secured of the end sill of a car.
lt will be seen from the foregoing description that the holder Ll may be of pressed, i
to the lower flange forged or cast metal or may be formed from 7a a Z bar of rolled, or built up section.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
ul. 'llhe combination with a train pipe of 80 an angle cock on said pipe, a bracket adapted to engage the head of said angle cock, a bolt engaging said train pipe for holding said head in close Contact with said bracket and for holding said anglecock against hack- S5 ward longitudinal movement.
2. ln an angle cock holder, the combina tion with an angular member adapted to engage the front and topnsurfaces of the head of an angle cock, bolt secured to said angular member adapted to engage the rear surface of said head and means for secnring said angular member to a car.
of a vertically disposed ll 90 3, ln an angle cock holder, the combina 95 tion with an angular member adapted to engage the head of an angle cock and prevent said angle cock from rotating and moving longitudinally, of a vertically disposed il bolt secured to said angular member adapted los to engage the rear surface of said head and prevent backward movement of the angle cock and means for securing said angular member to a car.
fl. In an angle cock holder, the coinbinaies tion with an angular member adapted to engage the head f an.
angle cock to prevent its rotation, of a lug on said angular mein ber,
an angle cock a clamping member secured to said angular member, said lug engaging the front face of Said liead, and said clamping member engaging the rear Jface of said head, said lug and clamping member cooperating to prevent forward and backward movement of tlie angle cock, and means tor securing said angular member to the car.
5. The combination with a train pipe, ot an angle cock on said train pipe, a bracket adapted to be secured to a ear, a bolt carried by said bracket adapted to paas around the train pipe for holding a flat surface of said angle cock in close contact with said bracket to prevent its rotation, said bolt preventing longitudinal movement of the-angle cock in one direction, and means depending from said bracket adapted to prevent movement of said angle cock in the opposite direction.
6. The combination with a train pipe, ot on said train pipe, an angular member carried by the car, a downwardly depending lug on said angular member, and a vertically disposed U bolt carried by said angular member adapted to engage the train pipe for holding a flat surface of said angle cock in` close contact witlisaidangular member to prevent its rotation, said lug and bolt being adapted to prevent longitudinal movement of said angle, cock.
7. The combination with a train pipe, of an angle "cock on said train pipe, an angular member adapted to be secured to a car and adapted to engage the head of' said angle cock to prevent its rotation, a lug on said member adapted to engage tbe front face ot' Said head to prevent longitudinal movement of said angle cock in one direction, and a bolt carried by said angular member adapted to pass around the train pipe and engage the rear face of said head to prevent longitudinal movement of the angle cock in the opposite direction.
- 8. The combination with a train pipe, of an angle cock on said train pipe, an angular member adapted to be secured to a car and adapted to hold said angle cock against .l'iorward and rotary movement, a bolt adapted to pass around said train pipe f'or holding said angle cock in close contact with said angular member and against backward longitudinal movement.
9. The combination with a train pipe, ot an angle cock on said train pipe, a bracket adapted to be secured to a car, and lraviuf.;- vertical and horizontal bearing faces, a bolt carried by said bracket adapted to surround said train pipe for holding l'lat surfaces of' said angle cock in close contact with said ljiearing faces to prevent vforward and rotary movement ot said angle cock, said bolt holding said angle cock against backward movement.
1n testimony whereof I allix my signature in presence ot two witnesses.
