Description
FREDRIGK. ZIEMER, OF FREEPORT, NEW YORK..
FLUSH-VALVE Specification of Letters Patent. j Patented (but. 1'?, 1916,
vApplication led 31113122, 1916.. Serial 11o'. 110,70@
To all whom t may Concern Be it known that Freemen Zinnen, a citizen of the United States, residingat e vfollowing is a specification' 'whereby the ball valve position. Theginvention aims to improve generallyl .The 'device forming the subject matter of this application is .a valve for a flush tank,
and one object of vthe invention is to pro vide n'ovel means for mounting the lever and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains. l
vl/'ith the above and other objects'in view which Will;appear as the-description proceeds, the invention resides in the combinaf tion and arrangement of 'parts and in the Vdetails of Construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of. the invention herein'disclosed can be made within the" scope o'f'what is claimed, without departing from the spirit ^ot` the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure' 1 shows the invention in side elevation, mount'- ed in. a flush tank, parts ,appearing 'in section; Fig. 2 is a cross section taken approxi- 'inately on 1the line '2 2 of Figi 1; Fig. 3l is a 'side elevation showinga slight modification 'in the. invention, parts being broken away; '35i and Fig. l is a cross sectionv taken approximatelj7 on the line 1-4 of Fig. 3.'
In carrying out the present invention there is lprovided avush tank 1 and a side Wall 2.
The numeral 3 designates an outlet, as-
sembled in the usual mannervvitl'r the boit?A tom-1 of thetank and provided'with a valve,
l .seat`4. 'Projeetinf. 1; laterallvfrom the valve too great 'a height in thetank, the overowmay pass through thelpipe 7 and the passage seat 4 is'an arm with which is assembled an upright pipe' or standard 7. 1n the arm 5 lthere isa passage 6 whiehcommunicates with the pipe 7, so that when Water rises to 6 into the eutlet 3, Surrounding the pipe 7 near to the lower end thereof is a clamp comprising parte 8 and '9 girovided with ears 10 united by clamp screws 11 or in any other suitable manner, The'part of theclamp fs'equipped with an vis heldin a raised 1 n l ftheleverare pivoted to form the ends 19 of including a bottomv upwardly extended arm 12 terminating in a transverse tubular bearing 14:.
The'invention comprises a lever including* parallel arms'lv whichrnerge at their rear en'ds,' as shown at 16, into a Weight 17..4 rlhe lbearing 14 is received between the arms 15 of the lever. A cotter pin -18 or other suitable lpivot vmember passes through the bearing 14' 4and is engaged with the'armsr-l@ of the lever.
The lever, thusis fulcrumed intermediate its ends.
T'ne -toiwvard extremities of the arms 15 of fio'V of a lever fiilerumed intermediate its ends* as' shown at '25 on *the4 upper' edge of the side wall 2, or otherwise supporteththe inner end of the lever 24 being' pivoted as shown at 26, to the upper; end ot' the rod 22.-
ln practical operation, the ball valve- 28 is held on the seat 4 by the weight of the water in the tank. The ball valve 23 may `be raised b v means of the rod 22,"Whereup'0n the ball valve will [ioat until vthe water has the ballv valve. yto engage theseat 4i. The.
4'weight -17 serves to aid in elevating the ball valve 23, and aids in holding the ball valve elevated while the' water is flowing out of the flush tanlt. y
recourse is had to the structure shown in Figs. 3 and Il.
1n Figs. 3 and 4, `thenu'meral 2l' desig nates a' pipe vcorresponding to 'the pipe 7,
The parte of the clamp arevshoivnat 28 andf 29 and are provided with ears 30 [united by 'screws 50. 'The clamp member 29qterminates in a lug 32 into which is threadeda clampscrew 33 having a head 34. Mounted to swing for adjustment in a .verticalvplane on the clamp screw 33 is an arm 34. Thev adjacent-facesof the arms34fand the lug 3 2 are .equipped with interengaging teeth 35.
By loosening the clamp screwl33, the .arm'
34 maybe adjusted to any. angle with re- -spect tothe verticahfand by tightening up.
the clamp screw 33, the head 33 'of the clamp screw will 'press vthe arm '34 toward the lug,` 32 thereby causing the .teeth 35 to intereng'age, and after they teeth are interengaged, the arm 34 will be held positively against .shifting its position. The upper 'endof the arm 34 carries a tubular bearing 36,- 'like the bearing 14,'the bearing 3G receiving-a pin 37 or other suitable fulcrum .menibciyjengaging the arms 38 of the'lever,
in the mannerv hereinbefore set fforth.
. l/Vhenthe devieeis constructed .new in toto,` the fixed arm construction. indicated at 12 in, Figs. 1 and 2, ordinarily will be employed, but; whenv Athe-clamp .members, of
' whichv the parts 28 and 2'9 may be 4italien' as typical, are mounted infan old-flush tank,
parts may 'be used to advantage.
Y vthenjthe adjustablearm 34 and' attendant Havingl thus described the inventiomwhat 1.' In a device .of the cljassdescribed, a Hush vtank comprisingan outlet having. a valve `seat; a valve cooperating with the seat; means for raising'the valve; a standard-an. the tank; a clamp on the standard and-co1n1' rising 'cooperating members; an
upstanding arm mounted -to swing for ad-v justment in a vertical 'planc toward' and away from'the standard; means forconnect-` ing thelower end of the arm with one member of the clamp releasably, :to permitan adjustment in the position .of the arm; a 45.
