IMPROVEMENT IN CORNERS FOR PHOTOGRAPHlC-PLATE HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,141, dated October 17, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH L.WINNER, of Elizabeth City, in the county of Pasquotank and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Corners for Camera-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and eXact description of the nature thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to fully understand and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making part of this specification, in which Figure l is a face view of a photographers kit having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section thereof in line a- :1 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a corner as detached from the kit.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
It is well known that corners for camera-holders have been constructed of vitreous material. These have been found objectionable from their liability to breakage in case of falling of holders, the difficulty of application to said holders, and the weakening of the latter by the modes of securing the holders thereto, as now adopted. Corners made of composition have also been in use, but they are affected by the acids necessary in photographing and soon become useless, and also possess the objections to those constructed of v it reous material. My invention is designed to remedy these evils; and consists in constructing the corners of non-corrosive metal. It also consists in forming a flange or ledge on the holder, whereby advantages are gained, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Referring to the drawing, A represents a photographers kit, and B the corners thereof. These corners are constructed of non-corrosive metal or of other metal with noncorrosive plating or fac ing. These metallic corners are readily applied to the kit bymeans of screws or nails which pass through openings in the side flanges E E of the corners, and the corners can be constructed of light or thin metal. By their application the corners proper of the kit are braced and supported and the wood-work of the kit is not weakened by the attachment of the said metallic'corners. The falling or jarring of the holder cannot break the corners, and the warping of the kit will not release them. No special construction of the kit is necessary in order to secure the said corners in place. The non-corrosive nature of the metal of which the corners are constructed renders them proof against acids. The set of corners for the lower side of the kit is formed with flanges or ledges O, which, 'when the corners are secured in place, extend longitudinally and horizontally with the kit. WVhen the plate is in the holder and the door of the latter is opened, the plate cannot fall outward, owing to the flanges G which serve to retain said plate in place. By means of the flanges, also, the silver or other solution is prevented from running over the corners of the holder, and is directed to the receptacle D below the plate, whereby the corners and kit are protected.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The corner for camera-holder, for the purpose described, constructed of non -corrosive metal with side flanges E, so as to be screwed or nailed to the kit or frame and adapted to brace the corners of the latter, all substantially as set forth.
2. The flange or ledge G on corners for camera-holders for preventing the displacement of the plate, substantially as and for the purpose described.
