To all whom it may concern: v
Be it known that I, HARRY E. ZEIGLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Carlisle, in the county of Cumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and usefulImprovements in Twyers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to twyers and more particularly to a device of this character especially designed for use in the hearth or forge of a chain maker.
Another object is the provision of a twyer of improved and simplified construction which shall be highly efficient in use.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawing, in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate cor responding parts, throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the hollow body of the twyer having an air chamber 6 therein and an internal rectangular flange 7 provided with a plurality of apertures 8.

The boss 13 and front member 11 are cast with bolts 25 which extend rearwardly through the tubular members 20 and 23 and the rear externally screw threaded ends thereof are provided-with nuts 26 whereby the front member 11 is reliably secured in position upon the front open end of the hollow body 5. Spring washers 27 are preferably positioned upon the bolt shanks 25 between the nuts 26 and the ends of the relatively short pipe sections ortubular members 23 to compensate for the expansion and contraction of the parts of the twyer. A securing plate 28 is formed with a plurality of apertures receiving the rear exposed ends of the relatively short pipe sections 23 and are secured in position thereon by the nuts 26.
The upwardly extending portions 30 of the Ts 22 receive upstanding pipe sections 31 having screw threaded upperextremities on which are fitted nuts 32. A holder plate 33 is provided with ape-rturesreceiving the upperextremities of the vertically disposed pipe sections 31 and is limited in its'downward movement by the adjustable nuts'32 which latter are preferably provided with beveled upper surfaces whereby the holder plate 33 may be secured at the desired inclination with relation to the upper surface of the hollow body 5. In applying the improved twyer to use, the body 5 and removable front member 11 are supported upon a shelf 40 provided upon the inner surface of the wall 41 of a chain makers forge and the body 5 is anchored in position by inclosing the exposed ends of the tubular members 20, couplings 22 and portions of the upstanding pipe sections 31 in cement or other plastic material forming a part of the wall 41. The ends of the relatively short pipe sections 23 project through the wall and support the plate 28, which latter is clamped against the outer surface of the wall by the nuts 26 fitted upon bolts 25 and thus removably securing the body 5 in operative position. The fire is built up against the front face of the front member 11 and the air discharged from the blast apertures 18 is thus directed into the fire. The holder plate 33 is retained in spaced relation to the top surface 42 of the wall 41 by the nuts 32, thus providing an air space between the plate 33 and the wall and insuring against excessive heating of the holder plate. The chain link or other article to be welded is supported above the fire in the forge by tongs engaged in the recesses 36 in the flange 35.

A twyer including a hollow body, an apertured member secured to the front of said hollow body, a gasket disposed between said body and said apertured member, tubular members secured in said hollow body and extending rearwardly thereof, bolts carried by said front member and extending rearwardly through said tubular members, and means for securing said bolts in said tubular members.
2. A twyerv including a hollow body having an open front, an internal flange in said hollow body having a plurality of apertures therein, a front member positioned over the front open end of said body, having a plurality of spaced apertures therein, an integral boss or enlargementv formed on the rear surface of said front member having a plurality of transverse air passages therethrough, a plurality of tubular members secured in said internal flange and extended rearwardly of said body, a plurality of bolts carried by said front'member and extending rearwardly through said tubular members, and nuts fitted upon said bolts for securing said bolts in position in said tubular members, and a gasket disposed between said body and said front member.
3. A twyer including a body, a plurality of tubular members secured to said body, a perforated cover or front member, a gasket disposed between said body and said cover or front member, a plurality of bolts carried by said front member and extending rearwardly through said tubular members, a holder plate disposed in parallel spaced relation and secured to said tubular members, and nuts fitted upon said bolts and engaged with the tubular members for securing said body and front member together.
4. In combination with the wall of a forge or furnace, a twyer including a hollow body, a holder plate disposed above the upper surface of said wall, and means for supporting said plate, said supporting means including means for adjusting said plate vertically and varying the inclination of the latter with relation to the top of said wall.
In combination with the wall of a forge or furnace, a twyer including a hollow body, a perforated front member associated with said hollow body, means associated with said front member for anchoring said body in said wall, a holder plate disposed above said wall, and an adjustable support for said holder plate carried by said hollow body.
6. In a twyer structure, the combination of a front or fire plate, a hollow member forming a main air chamber to which the same is separably secured, an internal flange near the front of said hollow member sepa rated from the rear of the fire plate to provide a supplementary air chamber and having openings connecting the chambers, said fire plate having air passages therethrough communicating with the supplementary chamber, a bolt attached to the front mem-- her for securing the sameto the hollow memher, and means associated with the bolt for supporting the entire twyer structure.
