Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID S. HEEBNER AND J O SIAH D. HEEBNER, OF NORRISTONVILLE, PENN.
IMPROVEMENT lN HORSE-POWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 120,066, dated October 17, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, DAVID S. HEEBNER and JOSIAH D. HEEBNER, of Norristonville, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Horse-Power; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable Others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
The figure is a side elevation, exhibiting several links connected. with their lower serrated sides inclined and their upper sides level.
This invention relatesto links for endless chains for horse-powers and it consists in making such links higher at one end than at the other, in order that while the lower edges of the links stand at an inclination above the rollers the upper edges may be horizontal, and so afford level footholds for the horses.
Referring to the drawing, a are the individual links of the section of endless chain therein shown,
said links having on their under edges teeth bin the usual manner. Each link is made higher at its rear than at its forward end, and so much,
higher as to bring the upper edges of the links on a leveL, Hence the endless chain on its upper side is like a pair of stairs, while on its lower side it is an inclined plane. This construction is very favorable to the horses that stand upon the chain, as it causes their feet to be horizontal while in contact with the links, and consequently relieves their legs of the strain to which they are subject when standing upon inclined surfaces.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A link, a, for the endless chain of a horsepower when such link is made higher at one end than at the other, as specified.
