To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, TVILLIAM V. REINELT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deckerville, in the county of Sanilac and State of Michigan,- have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package- Ties; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to package ties, and more particularly to a novel and efficient device for reliably securing a cord in position upon a package or other object.

The invention has for its object to provide a package tie or cord holder including essentially a body plate including novel and efficient means for permanently securing one end of a cord and means for reliably and detalchably securing the opposite end of the corc.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts as will be hereinafter specifically described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the package tie applied to use. Fig. 2 represents a top plan view of the package tieor cord holder removed. Fig. 3 represents an end elevation thereof, and Fig. 4 represents a longitudinal sectional view on the line 4l of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 indicates the body plate of the holder, which may be easily and inexpensively stamped from sheet metal and is formed with a tapered end 6 having an aperture 7 therein in which is secured one end of a cord or tie 8. The relatively large end of the body plate 5 is formed with an inwardly directed diagonal recess or slot 8 having an enlarged inner end 9. One of the longitudinal edges of the body plate 5, adjacent the relatively large end thereof, is formed with an inwardly directed diagonal slot 10 disposed at an angle to the slot 8 and terminating at its inner end in an enlarged opening 11.

The plate 12 is permanently secured to the body plate by a suitable fastener 13 arranged inwardly of the inner extremities of the slots 8 and the outer portion of the spring plate is disposed under the enlarged

9 and 11 of the slots 8 and 10, respectively.

A substantially U-shaped slit 14 is formed in the body plate 5 to provide a tongue 15 having its free pointed end 16 directed laterally or upwardly of the body plate so as to guide the cord 8 thereunder.

In use, the holder is positioned upon a package or other object 18 in parallel relation to the longitudinal center thereof and the cord 8 is looped transversely about the package, the free end being positioned under the small end of the body plate 5 and over the cord adjacent its anchored end, and is subsequently looped one or more times longitudinally about the package. The free end of the cord is moved through the slot 8 and into the enlarged end 9 thereof, the spring plate 12 engaging and firmly clamping the cord against the lower surface of the body plate 5, and the adjacent portion of the free end of the cord is engaged beneath the tongue 15 and turned back and engaged within the enlarged end 11 of the slot 8.

What I claim is:

1. A package tie comprising a body plate having a tongue, a tying element connected to said plate, said body plate having a slot therein adapted to receive said tying element, and a spring clamping plate secured to one side of said plate and covering said slot, said plate being adapted to clamp the tying element between itself and the side of the plate. 4

2. A package tie comprising a body plate having one end reduced and slots extending inwardly from and adjacent the opposite end terminating into recesses, said body plate having a substantially U-shaped slit therein defining a tongue, and a spring friction plate secured to the under surface of said body plate adjacent said slots and covering said recesses for frictionally holding a tying element in said slots and recesses.
