Description

J. CHEIN.
TOY CASH REGISTER.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 15. 1915.
Patented Sept 19 1916.
JULIUS CHEIN, OF MGNTCLAIR, NEW JERSEY.
TOY CASI'LRE SISTER.
Application filed March 15, 1915.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JULrUs Quinn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Montclair, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Cash-Registers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in toy cash registers, and the object of my invention is to provide a novel and useful device of the character described. I accomplish this object by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is an isometric view of the device with the front or cover 3 removed.
Similar characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The case of my improved device comprises a bed plate 1, back 2, front or cover 3 and side sections 4 and 5. The lower section 3 of the cover 3 is bent out approximately parallel to the bed plate 1, to form a lid for the drawer aperture. The rear end plate 7 of the drawer 6 projects above the plane of the sides of the drawer to engage the under side of the cover or front 3 when the drawer is open, to prevent the withdrawal of the drawer 6 from the case. Above the drawer 6 I provide a trigger plate 9 provided with trunnions 10, 1O seated in apertures in the side sections 4 and 5 of the case. In the plate 9 I provide fingers 11 preferably formed by stamping out apertures 12 and bending over the stamped out finger sections 11 to form the triggers 11 to engage the rear end plate 7 of the drawer 6 to normally retain the drawer in the case against the pressure of a band spring 13 secured to the inside of the case and bearing against the rear face of the drawer 6. A plurality of levers 15, 15 are each journaled on the bar 16 and rest in apertures 14 in the plate 9. The end section of each of the levers 15 supports one of the indicator plates 17 by means of a bent out ridge 18 formed in the indicator plates 17 and resting upon the levers15. On the plate 9 I provide a bar or clapper 19 adapted to strike a bell 20 on the under side of the front or cover section 3 when the plate 9 is raised. A rear edge Specification. of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 19, 1916.
Serial No. 14,580.
section 3 of the cover 3 is bent over to form a slot for the indicator plates 17 adjacent the back 2. The forward end section 15 of each of the levers 15 is flattened out to form finger keys upon which are printed, stamped or otherwise formed numerals corresponding with numerals upon the top section 17 of the indicator plates 17 My device being thus assembled, the indicator plates 17 will normally rest in their lower most position as shown by the solid lines in Fig. 2, with their ridges 18 resting upon the levers 15 and with the triggers 11 of the plate 9 engaging the rear end plate 7 of the drawer 6 and holding the drawer 6 against the pressure of the band spring 13.
The parts being in their normal position as above described one of the keys 15 of a lever 15 may be depressed thus raising the rear of the lever 15 which engages the ridge 18 of an indicator plate 17 whereby the indicator plate will be raised bringing into view above the cover 3 the top section 17 of the indicator plate 17 bearing a numeral corresponding to the numeral upon the key 15 so depressed. Coincident therewith the trigger plate 9 will be raised by its engagement with the lever 15 resting in slot 14 thereby raising the trigger 11 and releasing the drawer 6, which will be thrown out by the band spring 13 to a position where the rear end section 7 of the drawer will engage the under side of the cover 3 and the clapper 19 will be thrown against the bell 20. The drawer will be held in its open position by the pressure of the band spring 13, the position of the parts when the device is so opened being shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2. I When the pressure upon the lever key 15 is released the lever 15 will fall into its normal position, thus releasing its indicator plate 17. The lower end section 17 of the indicator plate 17 is bent out to engage in its descent, the rear edge section of the plate 9 whereby its upper or top section 17 will be held in its exposed position above the cover 3 as shown in Fig. 1, and by the dotted line in Fig. 2. lVhen the drawer 6 is returned to its normal position, its rear end section 7 will engage the trigger 11 of the plate 9 thereby tilting the plate 9 on its trunnions 10 and releasing the bent over end section 17 of the indicator plate 17, which will thereupon fall into its normal position.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A register including a case, an indicator plate vertically movable in the case,
a key lever fulerumed in the ease and operative to engage and actuate the plate, a drawer slidable in the case, a drawer looking plate pivotally mounted in the case and adapted to lock the drawer against opening movement, means for actuating the drawer locking plate in the operative movement of the key lever, and means carried by the indicator plate to engage the drawer looking plate to prevent dropping of the indicator plate.
2. A register including a case, an indicator plate verticallymovable in the case, a key lever fulcrumed in the case and 0perative to engage and actuate the plate, a drawer slidable in the case, a drawer looking plate pivotally mounted in the case and adapted to lock the drawer against opening movement, means for actuating the drawer locking plate in the operative movement of the key lever, and means carried by the indicator plate to engage the drawer locking plate to prevent dropping of the indicator plate, the drawer in its return to its normal position operating the drawer locking plate to release the indicator plate.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses. JULIUS CHEIN. \Vitnesses L. H. Brown, JUs'rIN P. GALLAND.
