Description
L. w. POLITSKY. PIPE FIT'HNG.
APPLICATWH FILED OCT. 28, IBIS.

LOUIS W. POLITSKY, vOF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
PIPE-FITTING.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1916.
Application filed October 18, 1915. Serial No. 56,465.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LOUIS W. PoLrrsKY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Fittings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to soil pipe fittings, and consists in a fitting) having a main soil pipe and an integral ranch or branches, of novel and improved form, all as hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing whlch lllustrates certain embodiments of the invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of pipe fitting containing the invention; Fig. 2 is a plan view of said fitt1ng; F1g. 3 is a front elevation of said fitting; F 1g. 4 1s a side elevation of said fitting; Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a modified form of fitting; Fig. 6 is a plan view, and Fig 7 is a front elevation, of the fitting shown in Fig. 5.
Referring first to Figs. 1 to 4: The fitting comprises a vertical main soil pipe at, which is designed to be inserted into and form a part of a continuous main soil pipe or stack a (Fig. 3) which extends vertically through the several stories of a building. The stack a may contain a similar pipe fitting on each floor. 6 is a closet branch or bend extending forwardly and upwardly from the main soil pipe at, integral therewith, and adapted for connection to a closet in the usual way. 0 is a laterally extending soil branch integral with and opening into the forward side of the main soil pipe a, adapted for connection to a bowl or similar fixture, the waste from which is to discharge into the main soil pipe. The branch 0 extends from the forward side of the main soil pipe forwardly a little, and then rearwardly, forming a bend adapted to admit a vertical vent pipe (Z between and in the same plane as the main soil pipe and the free end of the branch 0, which terminates beside the main soil pipe. Thus when the fitting is placed in position adjacent to a wall W, the main pipe a, the vent pipe d and the end of branch 0, are all in a line practically parallelwith and close to the wall, and a straight upright vent stack, 0?, may be used extending through the several floors of the building, without using costly and unsightly fixtures to carry the vent stack around the branch soil pipe as is necessary when a Y of usual construction is used. The closet bend 6 preferably has a vertical enlargement 7) near its junction with the main soil pipe, and a vent branch 6, formed integral with the fitting, opens into the top of the enlarged portion 6 of the closet bend, and extends therefrom laterally and rearwardly to a position between and in line with the end of the branch 0, and the main soil pipe at. Said vent branch 6 is spaced apart from the end of the branch soil pipe 0 to provide a space for the vertically extending vent pipe (Z, by a suitable connection such as an elbow or quarter-turn 6. Thus the branch soil pipe, vent branch and vent pipe are all brought into alined position at the side of the main soil pipe, close to and parallel with the wall.
In the modification shown in Figs. 5 to 7, a fitting is shown having no closet bend or vent branch, but designed for connection to a single bowl or other fixture. The main soil pipe c is adapted, as before, to be inserted in a main upright stack; and the laterally extending branch soil pipe, formed integral with the main soil pipe, extends forwardly and then bends rearwardly to a position at the side of the main soil pipe, so as to admit a vent pipe d in line with the main soil pipe and the free end of the branch 0.
I claim:
1. An integral pipe-fitting comprising a vertical main soil-pipe and a closet-branch leading upwardly and forwardly therefrom, said branch having integral therewith an upwardly extending forwardly offset lat eral soil branch taking into the lower part of said closet-branch and terminating in a portion ofiset rearwardly to define with said main soil-pipe a plane, with respect to which plan said lateral branch provides a soil branch adapting a vertical vent or other pipe or pipes in the said plane to be jumped or bridged over by said soil branch; and a vent-pipe branch opening from the upper portion of said closet branch and extending toward said plane, whereby a straight ventpipe in said plane may be employed to ventilate all of the connections to said soil-pipe.
2. A pipe fitting comprising a vertical main soil pipe, a closet branch extending forwardly from the main soil pipe and made integral therewith, a laterally extending branch opening into the main soil pipe and -little and then rearwardly to a position at position at the same side of the main soil pipe as said first branch, said two branches being spaced apart to admit a vertically eX- 10 tending pipe between them.
Signed by me at Boston, Massachusetts, this 14th day of October 1915.
LOUIS W. POLITSKY.

made integral therewith, constituting a branch soil pipe, and bending forwardly a one side of the main soil pipe, and a second branch opening into the upper part of the closet branch and constituting a vent, said second branch also bending rearwardly to a
