GEORGE L. LAKE, OF CHILHOWEE, MISSOURI.
HOG-OILER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 5, 1916..
Application filed April 22, 1916. Serial No. 92,881.
[0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE L. LAKE, a citizen'of the United States, resident of Chilhowee, in the county of Johnson and State of Missouri, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Hog-Oilers; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a partof this specification.
Figure 1 is a side view of the invention partly in section. Fig. 2 is a detail plan view of the upright roller and the receptacle, showing the valve and the adjustment means therefor. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3, Fig. 2, with parts broken away.
The invention has relation to hog oilers, for applying a disinfecting oil or insecticide to the animals rubbing against the same, and it consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the numeral 2 designates an upright roller, having usually a roughened or corrugated surface, against which the animal will rub in passing, said roller having at its lower end a journal bearing in a block 3, carried by a base 1, and at its upper end a journal bearing in an oblong boxing 5, carried by a raised support 6, located at the upper end of an upright or post 7 of said base. Resting upon said raised support is an oil tank or receptacle 8, projecting over the top of said roller and discharging thereupon. The roller is normally inclined upwardly and outwardly, and means are provided whereby, when the roller is moved toward the vertical by the hog rubbing against it, the supply of oil will be released from the tank, and when the roller assumes normal inclined position, the supply of oil will be stopped, said means consisting preferably of a valve 9, controlling the supply opening of the tank and having a stem 10, carrying at its outer end an annulus or ring 11, wherein the upper end of the roller has a journal bearing. The roller being moved toward the vertical, the upper end of the roller will be moved toward the oil tanlnthe valve stem and valve moving therewith to open the valve. After the animal has passed by, a coiled spring 12,
surrounding the valve stem and hearing at one end against the valve seat and at its opposite end against a stop-pin 13 of said valve stem, will move the roller back to normal inclined position.
Means are provided to limit the movement of the roller toward the vertical and also movement of the valve in opening, and to regulate the movement of the roller and of the valve, consisting preferably of an oblong frame 14, sliding in the boxing and having a set-screw 15, provided with a threaded bearing in the outerend or crossbar of the boxing. The valve stem has sliding engagement with a perforation of the inner end or cross-bar of the oblong frame,.said crossbar limiting the movement of the upper j ournal-end of the roller. When the oblong frame is adjusted by means of the set-screw the cross-bar will be brought nearer to or farther away from said upper journal-end, the result being that the movement of the roller and of the valve in opening will be regulated. The oil passing down the sides of the roller will be taken off by the hog in rubbing thereagainst, surplus oil passing through an inclined passage 16, leading from the lower journal bearing of the roller to a base receptacle or vat 17, wherein a horizontal roller 18 works.
The horizontal roller has journal bearings in the base, a setscrew 19 being provided to hold it stationary when desired.
The upright roller will oil the sides, back of head and ears of the hogs, and the horizontal roller will oil their bellies when the hogs step over the latter roller.
I claim:
1. In a hog oiler, a base, a standard provided with an upper oblong boxing, a raised oil receptacle upon said standard, a normally inclined roller having at its upper end a movable journal bearing in said boxing and at its lower end a journal bearing in said base, a valve in said oil receptacle, and means for opening said valve upon movement of said roller toward the Vertical.
2. In a hog oiler, a base, a standard provided with an upper oblong boxing, a raised oil receptacle upon said standard, a normally inclined roller having at its upper end a movable journal bearing in said boxing and at its lower end a journal bearing in said base, a valve in said oil receptacle, and means for opening said valve upon movement ofsaid roller toward the vertical,
- means .for limiting the movement' ofthe roller and the opening of the Valve, and means controlling the movement of the limiting means to regulatethe opening of the In a hog oiler, a'base, a standard pro vided with an upper boxing, a slidable frame in said boxing, an oil receptacle upon said standard, a-valvein said receptacle having a stem'provided at its outer end with a ring, a normally inclined roller'having at its upper end 'a journal bearing in said ring and at its lower end a j ournal bearing in said base, saidring having contact with tlieend of said frame to limit the opening 7 f the l d a set-screw controlling themovement of saidframe to regulate the opening ofthevalve. 4.;I'n a hog oiler, a base,'a standard pro- Copies'of this natent may be obtained for a horizontal vat for surplus oil, said base having a passage leading from the lower journal bearing of the roller to said vat, and
I a horizontal roller working in said vat.
, In testimony whereof I aifix my signature, 1n presence of two wltnesses.
