IMPROVEMENT IN BOB-SLEDS.
Specification forming part oi Letters Patent No. 119,611, dated October 3, 1871.
To all lwhom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DENNIS HOLTZ, of Tiffin, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bob- Sleds, -and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, referencebeing had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of the front bed having my limprovement applied to it. Fig. 2 is a section taken longitudinally and vertically through the center ofthe same.

This invention consists in a device for coupling the beds of bob-sleds together so that the sleds can be turned without bringing the bolsters nearer together, and so that the sleds may pass over rough and uneven ground without liability of straining them, as will be hereinafter explained.
In the accompanying drawing the bed for the front runners of the sled is represented; that for the rear runners is constructed in precisely the same manner, and for this reason is not shown. This bed is composed of two side pieces, A A, bolted upon transverse bolsters J J, across the middle of the length of which a strong bed-piece, H, is framed into them. In the center of the bed-piece H and firmly bolted upon it is a circular hanged plate, G, which may have a hub formed on it that Willextend through the bed H, as shown in Fig. l. about which this reach turns. This reach has two arms, c c, formed on its pivoted end, which radiate from the king-pin a and have jaws or -hooks formed on their ends that are turned unend of this reach is forked to receive a forkedv hinged piece, E, which is pivoted at i by a horizontal transverse pin, and which is perforated longitudinally to receive through it swivel-rod F, by means of which latter a coupling is effected with the rear runner-bed.
It will be seen from the above description that I connect two runner-beds together so that they 'have perfect freedom to accommodate themselves to the undulations of the ground passed over, and that the front runner-bed can be turned to the right or the left without in any manner straining the parts of the sled.
