Description

ITD TATES PATENT Error..
IMPROVEMENT IN STRAP-CUTTERS.
Sipecication forming part of Letters'Patent No. 119,578, dated October 3,1871 antedated September 27, 1871.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RICHARD GROCKER, of ll/Iarshalltown, in the county of Marshall and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Strap-Cutter; and I do herebyr declare that the following is a full7 clear, and exact rdescription of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification. y
My invention consists in a new way of cleaning the rotary knives ot a strapcutting apparatus by passing them between the teeth of a comb as they revolve7 and immediately after the cutting operation has been performed.
Figure lis a vertical transverse sectional view, and Fig. 2 a plan view of my improved machine.
A is the frame; B, a crankshaft 5 and O, a horizontal supporting roller. D is a series of parallel annular blades or cutters; c, the washers separating them 5 and a, a nut clamping them on the shaft. b is-a thumb-screw in which one end of the shaft B is centered. O is a wooden supporting roll having a groove for each blade. d is a table, and e a gauge, adjustable laterally thereon. fis a slotted plate, which constitutes the comb or cleaners to the knives, and which incidentally guides them and prevents them from whipping.
lThe mode of operation is as follows The gauge being set to the width of the sheet of leather to be out, the leather is placed on table d and fed to the rotary cutters D. The strips, when out, have a tendency to work tight between the knives and to Wind around the shaft. To remove this difliculty my comb f then comes into important use, and strips the pieces of leather from the knives as fast as they are out.
Havingthus described all that is necessary to a full understanding` of my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a strap-cutting machine7 the comb f, combined with a series of rotary knives, D, arranged to pass severally through the slots thereof, as and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 6th day of September, 1870.
RICHARD GROOKER.
