Description

' (Model) A. PLOHR. Bean Cutter. No.- 239,235.
Patented March 22,1881.
//M///A B WrIH WTNESSES ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANDREVV FLOHR, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA.
BEAN-CUTTER.
SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent No. 239,235, dated March 22, 1881.
` Application filed October 16,1880. (ModeL) To all whom tt may concern Be it known that I, ANDREW FLOHR, of Sacranento, in the countyof Sacranento and Sta-te of California, have inventecl a new and valuable Improvement in Bean-Cntters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the Construction and operation of the sane, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speoification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective View. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section; Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section.
This invention relates to devices for cutting beans and it consists in the construction hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawings, A represents a frane having cheek pieces B B, hopper U, lower opening, D, and clanps E F. Held within the frame and between the cheek-pieces are two rollers, Gr H. Roller G consists of a shaft, g, having collar n, screw-stern p, and nut r, between said collar and nut being clanpecl the outting-disks b, and intervenin g collars, a. Uponone end of shaftgis the handleI. Roller H is hung on a line with the rotary cutter G, and has in its periplery grooves g', opposite to and adaptecl to receive the cutting-edges of cutters or disks b. Roller His preferably made partially hollow, and is hun g on shaft h, whose cnds pass through slots ein cheek-pieces B B, and are jourualed in plates K K, which are adjustable along said slots e by means of pins k and slots k', by which construction the devce can be regulated to cut different sizes.
Fastened to one side of opening D is a clearer,
L, between whose teeth Z the cutters b pass, and are thereby cleared and kept from being fouled.
In this device the cutting-roller Gr forms the knife, and roller H the cutting-block, between which the beans fed in at the hopper are readily clopped or cut. As the rotary cutter revolves, the edges of its disks bear into grooves in the cutting-block, and by friction cause the cutting-block to revolve in an opposite direction, whereby the cut beans are carried down between the disks and fall through opening D.
I an aware of Patent No. l06,520, which shows a cutter similar to mine.
My (levice is made adjustable, as shown and described, so that it can be usecl for beans of various sizes, and also for avariety of Vegetables, it only being necessary to change the relation of the cutter and the block.
What I claim is-- i\ Bollers C and H, arranged in line, in combination with frarne A, having slots e in its cheek-pieces B B, plates K, having slots k', journals h, passing through slots e and having bearings in plates K, and pins r, passing through slots Ic' and entering cheek-pieces B B, whereby the platcs K can be moved along said cheek-piecesand-the position of the rollers with relation to each other be changed.
In testinoy that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
ANDREW FLOHR.
Witnesses:
