To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE HENRY WI-IEARY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State ofVVisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Closet Fixtures, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompany ing drawings, which are a part of this specification.

This invention relates to improvements in closet fixtures for holding garments.

In furnishing the closets of hotel rooms with garment hangers it has been found that the hangers surreptitiously disappear and the hotel 'management would be under the expense of replenishing the supply from time to time.

It is one of the objects of the present invention to overcome the before mentioned objectionable features and provide a closet fixture adapted to have garment hangers mounted thereon which may be easily moved to drape garments thereon or remove them therefrom without permitting the hangers being surreptitiously removed from the fixture.

A further object of the invention is to provide a closet fixture in the 'form of a double track for holding garment hangers locked thereon and having means whereby the hangers may be easily removed by unlocking a portion of the fixture.

A further object of the invention is to provide a closet fixture having extensible track ends which may be swung into alined positions to permit the hangers being separated to easily remove or replace garments thereon.

A further object of the invention is to provide a closet fixture in which the means for locking the removable portions of the tracks also serves as a guard for preventing the surreptitious removal of the fixture from its support.

A further object of the invention is to provide a closct fixture which is of simple construction, is strong and durable and is well adapted for the purpose described.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of the improved closet fixture and its parts and combinations as set forth in the claims, and all equivalents the same reference characters indicate the same parts in all of the views: Figure 1 is a top view of the improved closet fixture shown mounted on a support, the extensible track member being indicated in closed position by dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof taken on line 22 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing the numeral 5 indicates a support and 6 the improved closet fixture mounted thereon. The fixture comprises the rear securing plate or bar 7 having forwardly projecting rods which form parallel tracks 8 upon which eyed garment hangers 9 are slidably mounted. The tracks are round in cross section and have a threaded engagement 10 with the rear securing plate 7 as indicated in Fig. 3, and at their forward ends are provided with hinged extensions 11 which may be swung horizontally from outer positions alined with the fixed tracks to inner positions extending toward each other and at right angles to the fixed tracks. The extension tracks are also round in cross section and the opposite end portions of the garment hangers are provided with eyes or openings 12 through which the tracks extend. The outer ends of the extension tracks are provided with stop knobs or enlargements 13 which are of larger diameter than the openings 12 of the hangers so that the hangers cannot be removed from the tracks by pulling them off the forward ends of the rods. The inner end portions of the fixed tracks adjacent the securing plate 6 are recessed transversely to form slabbed or fiat portions 14 into which extend the locking members 15 carried by the locking bar 16. Theselocking members 15 have bifurcated lower portions which straddle the tracks with the portions 15 entering the trans versely extending recesses and engaging the slabbed or flat portions thereof and thus prevent the tracks 8 from being surreptitiously unscrewed from the securing plate and the hangers removed from the fixture.

The locking bar 16 is hinged at one end to the securing plate 6 by a pivot pin 17 and at its opposite end is provided with a depending tongue 18 which enters the lock 19 mounted on the securing plate 6 and locks the bar 16 in track engaging position. The lock 19 is controlled by a key20. The securing plate 6 is connected to a support by screws 21, a number of which are positioned in the rear of the locking bar 16 and cannot be engaged unless the locking bar has been swung to open position.

In use the extensible tracks are swung into alinement with their respective fixed tracks to provide sutficient space to separate the hangers and permit the removal of the garments therefrom. The extensible tracks also serve when in closed position to prevent the hangers working outwardly.

WVhile the fixture has been described as a closet fixture and more particularly adapted for use in hotels, it is to be understood the fixture is also useful in private houses and other places than closets.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the closet fixture is of simple construction and is well adapted for the purpose described.

hat I claim as my invention is:

1. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having means for connecting it to a support, a garment hanger track member removably connected to, the securing member and projecting horizontally outwardly therefrom and having a stop means on its outer end, means for preventing the surreptitious removal of the track member from the securing member, and garment hangers slidably mounted on the track member.

2. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having means for connecting it to a support, a garment hanger track member removably connected to the securing member and projecting horizontally outwardly therefrom and having a stop means on its outer end, locking means for preventing the surreptitious removal of the track member from the securing member and the securing member from its. support, and garment hangers slidably mounted on the track member and locked thereto by the locking means.

3. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having means for connecting it to a support, a garment hanger track member revolubly connected to the securing member and projecting horizontally outwardly therefrom and having a stop means on its outer end, locking means for locking the track member against rotation and for preventing the surreptitious removal of the securing member from its support, and garment hangers slidably mounted on the track member and locked thereto by the locking means.

4. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having means for connecting it to a support, a horizontally extending garment hanger track member having a threaded engagement with the securing memberand a stop means on its outer end, said track member also having a flattened portion adjacent its connection with the securing member, a locking member engaging the flattened portion of the track member to prevent its rotation, and garment hangers slidably mounted on the track member and locked thereto by the locking member.

5. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having means for connecting it to a support, spaced horizontally extending track members having a threaded engagement at their inner ends with the securing member and provided with stop means at their outer ends, said track members having flattened side portions, a locking bar mounted 011 the securing member and engaging the flattened portions of the track members to prevent the unthreading of said track members from said securing member,

and garment hangers provided with openings through which the track members extend, said openings being of less diameter than the, width of the stop means of the track members, said hangers being locked on said track members by the lock bar.

6. A closet fixture, comprising a securing member having means for connecting it to a support, spaced track members having a threaded engagement at their inner ends with the securing member, said track members having flattened sideportions adjacent their threaded ends, extension track mem-' bers hinged to the outer ends of the threaded track members and arranged to swing'from alined positions with the threaded track members to folded positions at right angles to the threaded track members, the outer ends of said extension track members provided with knobs or enlargements, garment hangers having openings intheir opposite end portions through which the track members extend, the openings of said hangers being of less diameter than the knobs of the extension track members, a locking bar pivotally connected at one endto the securing members and having depending portions .7 which engage the flattened portions of the threaded tracks to prevent the said tracks from being unscrewed from the securing member, and a lock for securing the free end of the locking bar tothe securing member when in closed position, the. said locking bar also serving to prevent the removal of the securing member from its support. when said lockingbaris in closed position.
