LOCK.
Application filed June 7, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO O. GROSSGLASS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Brighton, in the county of Beaver, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in screens of that type comprising a pair of screen frames slidably held together to provide an adjustable structure adapted to fit in windows of various lengths, and it is the object of the present invention to provide a means for locking the screen sections against relative movement in their various adjusted positions so as to hold the screen in the window against undesired removal by a person on the outside of the window.
It is further the object to provide such a device which is simple in nature and which may readily be associated with such screen structures in such manner as not to interfere with the eilicient operation thereof or to form an obstruction thereon.
' It is still further the object to provide such a locking means which may be actuated to unlocking or releasing position upon grasping the screen sections to slide them together.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention resides more particularly in the novel combination, formation and arrangement of parts as more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claims.
Reference is had to the accompanying drawings wherein similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

accompanying drawings, there is shown an extensible screen comprising a pair of frames 5 and 6, each including an end sill Y and side sills 8 engaged in slidably lapped relation with the sills of the other frame. The frames carry wire fabric bodies 9 which have their free edges bound by metal strips 9 which have their ends looped about the pairs of adjacent sills to slidably hold the i The locking member for frames together. these frames comprises'a single length of U-shaped resilient metal having its eight bowed at 10, with the material at each sideof the bight bent laterally to form arms 11 and provided with an eye 12 receiving a screw or other fastening means 13 which is secured on the inner faces of the sills of one frame, adjacent their outer ends. Past these eye portions the member is extended to form the locking arms 1 1 which slidably extend into open-ended slots 15 formed in the outer ends of the sills of the other frame. The locking means for these arms comprises plates 16 secured on the ends of the slotted sills and having openings 13 receiving said arms and a plurality of notches 17 in the inner edges of the arms adapted to engage against the plate, it being understood that the arms 14 are normally resiliently urged inwardly.
The end 7 of the frame 6 has mounted thereon a bracket 18, which is alined with the offset 19 formed in the bight portion 10. Thus it will be seen that when it is desired to swing the arms ll outwardly so that the notches thereof will disengage the locking plates, the operator grasps the bracket and offset 19 between the thumb and forefinger respectively, and upon exerting pressure, the portion 10 will. be drz wn toward the bracket, thus swinging the arms in a desired direction.
An exceedingly simple device has thus been provided which will efficiently perform the functions set forth, and which by its compact design forms no substantial obstruction on the screen structure and does not mar the appearance thereof.
lVhat is claimed is 1. The combination with a pair of slidably connected screen members, of means for locking them against relative movement, said means comprising a pair of arms pivotally mounted on one end member and resiliently connected for urging the arms for locking engagement.
2. The combination with a pair of relatively movable screen members, of locking plates carried by one of said members and provided with openings, arms loosely passed through said openings and provided with notches to engage the edges of the openings and to lock the members against relative movement, said arms being resiliently connected to each other and also to the other member, and resiliently urged into locking engagement with the plates.
3. The combination with a screen including a pair of U-shaped members having their arms slidably connected, of a resilient U- shaped rod having the ends of its bight secured to the ends of the bight portion of one of the members and having its arms engaged with the arms of the other member and resiliently urged to locking engagement therewith.
4. The combination with a screen including a pair of U-shaped members having their arms slidably connected, of a resilient U-shaped rod having the ends of'its bight bent to provide outwardly projecting portions, said portions being pivoted to the bight of one of said U-shaped members, locking plates carried by the ends of the other U-shaped member and the arms of the said rod being provided with notches to lockingly engage said plate and resiliently urged to said locking engagement.
5. The combination with a screenincluding a pair of U-shaped members having their arms slidably connected of a resiliently U- shaped rod having the ends of its bight bent to provide outwardly projecting portions, said portions being pivoted to the bight of one of said U-shaped members, the ends of the arms of the other member being slotted and adapted to receive the arms of the rod, a locking plate disposed across the said slotted ends and the arms of the rod being provided with notches to lockingly receive the edges of said plates. 7
