Description

NITED STATESA PATENT OFFICE.
FERDENAND F. VOIG'I, OF NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN YMOTH PROTECTORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,481, dated October 3, 1871 ;antedated September 14, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FERDENAND F. Voler, of the city of New Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain Improvements in Moth Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawing annexed forming a part thereof.
My improvement has for its object the protection of all kinds of clothing or cloths which are composed wholly or in part of wool, and of all kinds of furs or fabrics of whatever kind whichV are subject to the attacks of moths or of any other cloth-destroying insects. My device is of very simple and easy construction, and of very limited and comparatively trifling cost, and will be found in practice to answer thoroughly the purposes for which it is intended, as my experience in its use has abundantly proved. My iinprovement is designed to be used, as a general thing, within awardrobe or closet, and to be suspended from the ceiling thereof, or from hooks provided for that purpose, either in a room, wardrobe, or closet, as occasion may require.
It is a well-known fact that raw cotton or cotton cloth is an effectual barrier to the progress of those terribly-destructive woolen-destroying insects known as moths and, While cotton cloth is an absolutely essential feature to the utility of my invention, Ido not claim its application as new, but the device, which is further illustrated in the annexed drawing, is certainly novel, and will be more clearly understood by reference thereto.
In the drawing, a represents a spindle, by which the whole device is suspended from a wardrobe or closet either by an eye or hook, I),
or the top cap c may be placed above the ceiling v of the wardrobe or closet and thus be suspended thereby. Around the spindle a there revolves loosely the frame-work d d d d, and this said frame-Work rest upon the circular wooden frame c, which is rigidly attached to the said spindle a, and upon the periphery of which there are placed upon projecting axles several wheels f j" f. Upon these wheels revolve the frame-work d d! d elf, and to this frame-work is suspended the cotton cloth covering m, a part of which is shown broken away the more clearly to show my device and its mode of operation. Upon that part of the frame-work d d! d cl' which is represented by d!" are attached as many hooks as occasion may require or space permit, and from these hooks are suspended the cloth fabrics or clothes which it is desired to protect either from dust or the attack of moths. Around the spindle a and upon the frame-work d d d tl there is placed a ring of India rubber, o, which makes a perfectly tight joint and effectively prevents the passage o f moths or dust from the ceiling of the wardrobe above. At and upon the bottom of the cotton cloth dust or moth protector a cord or string is placed or run through the entire circle of the same, which serves the purpose of drawing the bottom closely together so as to prevent the passage of either dust, moths, or insects of any kind whatever.
Having described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is the following:
The spindle c, circular plate c, revolving frame el d d cl" provided with hooks, as stated, and the covering or sack m, when the same are constructed, combined, and arranged substantially as described.
FERDENAND F. VOIGT.
