Be it known that I, ERUcHsHAw BYRAMJI DAROOWALLA, a subject of the Emperor of India, residing at Bombay, India, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Padlocks, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in padlocks.

It comprises a key with two bits on the same side of the stem operating two separate bolts one of which looks the other. The shackle is split, each half opening from the opposite side of the case, while the padlock is divided into two compartments by a partition, a bolt working in each. The key moves clockwise in opening it and engages the bolts in difierent portions of a revolution, thus insuring extra security, but as the two movements commence at right angles to each other one of them has to be reversed in order to give the bolts their proper direction.

Referring to the annexed sheet of drawings, Figure 1 shows the padlock with the cover and partition removed. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the partition in place. Fig. 8 is a cross section through the center of the padlock. Fig. at shows the key with two bits in line and so spaced as to enter their respective compartments in the padlock, and Fig. 5 is an elevation of one of the tumblers.

The shackle c is split as shown in Fig. 3 each half being hinged at one side of the case and entering a recess in a boss at the other side. The two halves are locked in this position by the mechanism within.

In Fig. 1 the bolt f is pivoted at g and enters a recess 9", the other endof g is pivoted at h to the key bar .9 working in guides- 73, j, and is, Z. The locking of the two bolts takes place as follows :The projection m on the under side of the bolt t passes through the partition and enters between two projections y (Fig. 1) upon the ke bar 3. The drawing shows the bolts locke and to open them the key would first move the bolt t downward releasing the bolt from the boss (Z and carrying the projection m below from the projections g on the key bar 8 thus freeing it. The key continues its movement pushing the key bar to the left along with the lower end of the lever bolt f causing the end 7'' to be released from the boss (Z. The shackle may then be opened.

The lock is furnished with the usual tumblers which for the sake of clcarness are represented in Fig. 5; they are pivoted upon the pin m in Fig. l and on the pin to in Fig. 2.

What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a padlock, the combination of a shackle divided longitudinally into two sections, and rotatable bosses on opposite sides of the padlock to which each of the shackle sections respectively are permanently connected at one end and with which the other end of each shackle section respectively ongages when in the closed position.
