CONRAD E. NYSTRUM, OF MEDFORD, "WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR F ONE-FOURTH T0 EUGENE M. WHITE, OF MEDFORD, VIISCONSIN.
i CUSPIDOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug.. 15, 1916.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD E. NYSTRUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Medford, in the county of Taylor and Sta-te of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cuspidors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in cuspidors and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character wherein the receiving member is produced from material inflammable in a relatively high temperature, whereby said member may be incinerated after being in use whereby it will be perceived that my improved cuspidor is a sanitary type.
lt is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved cuspidor wherein the receiving member is adapted to be applied within a rigid member, said rigid member being provided with means whereby it may be effectively anchored in applied position in order to reduce to a minimum the possibility of the cuspidor being overturned.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved cuspidor wherein the receiving member may be elfectively sealed before the same is removed from its container.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved cuspidor whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
ln order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference t0 the accompanying drawings, wherein is disclosed a view partly in elevation and partly in vertical section of a cuspidor constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes a container of predetermined dimensions and formed preferably of metal and having its lower or closed end weighted to prevent tipping of the container, and
the under `face of the closed end of the container 1s provided at its center with a threaded recess 2 to afford means whereby lthe same may be detachably engaged with the threaded shank 3 adapted to be per1nanently secured to a supporting surface. As herein embodied, the shank 3 is provided with an enlargedv head l adapted to be secured to a supporting surface through the medium of screws 5 or other anchoring means.
6 denotes a receiving member preferably formed of a material inflammable at a relatively high temperature and adapted to be positioned within the container 1, the iiared neck 7 serving to a'ord a suspension means for said member, although if preferred, the closed end thereof may rest directly upon the closed end of the container 1.
rlhe lower end of the neck 7 is provided with the inwardly disposed annular flange 8 with which is'adapted to be engaged the substantially concaved top 9 having its interme diate portion provided with the opening 10 to permit ingress within the member 6.
The flared neck 7 has engaged therewith the flexible bail 11 of cord or cloth and which affords a convenient means whereby the member 6 may be withdrawn from within the container 1 and transported to a suit able fire when it .is desired to incinerate the member and its concomitant parts. It will be perceived that the bail 11 is of such dimensions as to overlie the container 1 when the device is in actual operation. The top 9 is also produced of a material inflammable at relatively high temperature for a purpose which is believed to be self-evident.
12 denotes a cover member also formed of a material inflammable at a relatively high temperature which is adapted to seal the open end of the member 6 when it is desired to remove said member from within the container 1, and the member 12 is held in applied position by a frictional contact by its peripheral margin with the flared neck 7 of the member G.
From the forego-ing description, it is thought to be obvious that a cuspidor constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly well adapted for use `by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assem bled, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and Copies of this patent may be obtained for container, the upper end of the member being provided with an outwardly {iared neck and with an inwardly disposed liange adjacent the lower end of the neck, and a substantially concaved top supported by the inwardly disposed flange, said top beinfjT provided with an opening at its center.
In testimony whereof I hereunto alix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
CONRAD E. NYSTRUM.
