Description

A. E, VEZINA.
POKER.
APPLICATION FILED 00129. 1915.
Patented Aug. 8,1916.
ANTOINE EMILE VEZINA, OF OUTREMONT, QUEBEC, CANADA.
POKER.
Application filed October 29, 1915.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE EMILE VI JZINA, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and residing at Outremont, 1n the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pokers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The invention relates to improvements in pokers and the object is to devise a poker that may be used in revolving fire box doors of the type of the Franklin doors, now extensively used in locomotives. The usual way is to open the doors and introduce the poker and to close the doors on the poker to activate fire. When this has been done, it is necessary to open the door a second time to pull it out. This difficulty is now overcome by the fork like end of the poker and with this. invention, it will not benecessary, to open the doors to pull it out, the fork shape end serving as a wedge that will force the doors open on pulling on the poker, thus saving time and economizing on the fuel.
It is a well known fact that a large amount of heat is lost by the frequent opening of the doors. Therefore, with this poker, the doors will be opened just sufiiciently to permit the withdrawal of the poker, thus avoiding the entrance of too much air.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the poker and Fig. 2 is an end view of Fig. 1 showing the special shape of the scraper.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented A11 8, 1916.
Serial No. 58,690.
'Referring to the drawings, 1 is the stem of the poker and 2 is the usual handle at one end, said stem terminating in the forked shaped ends 3 and 4t and 5 which are secured to the sides of a rectangular shaped scraper 6 centrally slotted at 7.
It may be mentioned that the usual pokers used by firemen on locomotives have a great disadvantage, for they usually catch in between the grate bars. It is obvious that with a poker such as disclosed herewith, these disadvantages will be obviated.
It must be understood that the constructional details of the herein described invention, can be modified, if found desirable, so long as I do not depart from the invention as claimed in the following claims for novelty.
What I claim is 1. An improved poker comprising a stem having a handle at one end, the other end of said stem being of a fork shape, said forked shape end being secured to a rectangular plate and flush with the sides of said plate, substantially as described.
2. In an improved poker, a stem terminating in three branches projecting and spreading therefrom at one end, a rectangular plate centrally slotted, the outer ends of said projecting branches being secured to a rectangular plate and flush with the sides of said plate and a handle at the other end 'of said stem, substantially as described.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 2nd day of October, 1915.
