To 117/ whom it may I'OIIIKIIL' lle it known that l, Tuouas J. Ammonia, a citizen of the United States. residing at Rochester. in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lasts, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention appertains to improvements in shoe lasts and particularly to that type known as broken or divided lasts, wherein the body is provided with relatively movable sections.
An object of my device is to provide as simple a construction as possible to witlr stand the pounding operations, with connecting parts for the sections so arranged as to facilitate assembling, so that the article may be manufactured without greatly increasing the costs as compared with the conventional solid or non-divided lasts.

'lhroughout the following detail description, and on the several figures of the drawing. similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the front or toe portion of the last and 2 the back or heel section thereof. The shoe form, as will be noted, is divided on the diagonal line (L-b, so that the sections may have relative movement to permit the last to be reduced in size for the purpose of introducing the body into a shoe to be worked upon. With the body divided as indicated in the official drawing, the size of the last may be reduced approximately three and a half sizes. as this term is conventionally used in the art to which this invention relates. The contiguous faces of the sections 1 and 2 are suitably slotted to re ceive the connecting member or plate 3 fixedly secured to the toe section by the pins 4 extending through apertures in the plate provided for this purpose. The heel section of the last is provided with one or more pins 5 cooperating with longitudinally extending slots (3 in the connecting plate 3 whereby said section may move relatively to the toe section, in a manner indi *ated by the dotted lilies of Fig; :2.
The heel section 2 is bored transversely in a linesubstantially parallel to the dividing line (/-b as indicated at 7 and in this bore is fixed a spring 8 connected at one end to the. pin 9 and at its other end to an otfstanding or lateral arm 10 of the connecting plate 3. This spring tends to bring the last sections into normal registering position upon insertion of the last into a shoe.
In order to limitthe return movement of the movable last section, I provide a pin 11 in the. heel section 2 against which the extremity of the arm 10 of the connecting plate impinges, this extremity being preferably formed with a U-shaped slot designated 12 to receive the pin 11 just referred to.
It will be apparent from the foregoing description that the last comprises only a comparatively few number of parts which enable the connection of the sections of the last and these parts are conveniently arranged so as to facilitate the connection of the. several members in the assembling of the device.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is:
1. A shoe last consisting of toe and heel sections, a connecting plate intermediate said sections and formed with a lateral arm, connecting pins passing through the sections and said connecting plate, a stop member secured in the heel section against which the connecting plate arm aforesaid impinges to limit relative movement of said section, the heel section having a transverse bore adjacent to an edge of the connecting plate and substantially parallel thereto, and a. spring in said bore having one end fixed to the heel section and the other end attached to the lateral arm aforesaid for holding the section in normal position.
