BEARD-SOFTENER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS G. MORGAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Shamokin, in the county of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Beard-Softeners, of which the following is a specificatiotn.

My present invention relates generally to beard softeners and more particularly to a construction wherein a rubber brush is utilized for this purpose, my object being to provide means whereby a rubber brush may be readily associated and permanently held in connection with a supporting cap,

' and in connection with a handle for the manipulation of the complete implement, and in such manner that the handle may be secured in connection with the cap by the same means employed for holding the brush.

In the accompanying drawing, wherein are shown the particular means employed for this purpose, and which forms a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved beard softener complete, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section therethrough in its completed form, Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the cap with portions of the handle, a part of the cap being broken away and in section, and the rubber brush and its backing being removed, Fig. 4 is a similar view illustrating the brush back or block in position within the cap, and Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the brush back or block removed.

Referring now to these figures, my invention essentially comprises a U-shaped handle A, the extensions A of which are associated with a brush head generally. indicated at B in .Fig. 1, and which, as best seen by reference to Figs. Qto 4 inclusive, includes a cap C having a surrounding flange C provided at certain points with apertures G for the reception of the handle extensions A before mentioned. In addition to the cap the brush head includes a rubber brush D which is secured in this in-- stance by an adhesive E to a brush back or block F within the cap C, and having slots or recesses F, as clearly seen by reference- Specification of Letters Patent.

to Figs. 4 and 5, which receive the handle extensions A, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 4.

The adhesive E which serves to unite the rubber brush D with its back or block F, is flooded upon the surface of this block after the latter is disposed in proper position within the brush head, and as clearly seen in Fig. 2, finds its way into the slots or recesses F of the back or block so as to effectively secure a permanent hold upon the handle A in connection with the thus-united brush and block in addition to securing all of these parts within the cap. I am thus enabled by a simple and inexpensive expedient to unite the cap, brush, brush back or block and handle in one operation and through one securing medium, thus simplifying and reducing the cost of this operation as well as resulting in a more nearly homogeneous condition of the finished article.

In the present instance they cap G is formed of celluloid, but it is to be appre ciated that the material of the cap as well as that of the back or block F may be varied at will. It is also to be appreciated that the adhesive E may be either of a glutinous or cementitious nature, although preferably of a material capable of withstanding the action of water and moisture to which the implement as a whole is subjected in operation.

I claim 1. In a beard softener, a brush head including a cap having apertures in its rim, a brush back or block disposed within said cap and having slots adapted to coincide with the openings of the cap rim, and a brush member disposed upon the said brush back or block within the cap, a handle on said head having extensions projecting through the apertures of the cap rim and into the said slots of the brush back or block, and an adhesive securing the brush member to its back or block, extending into the slots of the brush back or block whereby to secure the handle to the head.
