To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMANN H. Lo'r'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Links for Bracelets or the like, (being a division from my application for Letters Patent for links for bracelets or the like, filed May 24, 1915, Serial No. 30,022,) of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.

This invention relates generally to jewelry and, more particularly, to certain new and useful improvements in jewelry of that class or kind known as bracelets or wrist-ornaments.

The principal object of my present invention is to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive catch or lock, whereby a plurality of the so called links in said application shown and described may be conveniently and detachably fastened upon the wrist when in connected or bracelet form.

lVith the above and other objects in View. my present invention resides in certain novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as will be hereinafter described and afterward pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawing, which shows my present invention in preferred form, Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a plurality of jewelry links in connected or )raeelet form fastened together to embrace the wrist by means of my new end catch or look; Figs. 2 and 3 are plan views of parts of the jewelry link with which my new endcatch is adapted to be employed; Fig. 4 is a plan view of the catch or wrist-fastening member of the completed or finished bracelet shown in Fig. l; and Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view, partly broken away, of one of the links, showing a second link provided with the catch or wrist fastening member shown in Fig. l operatively attached thereto.

vide an outer top portion or wall 1, upon which in the finished link may appear any suitable or desirable design, ornamentation, or the like, and laterally disposed or flanged side portions or walls 22, and end-portions or walls 33, both end-portions or Walls 33 being cut away, as at 4, for purposes hereinafter appearing.

Fitting fiatwise snugly within the confines of the body-member or shell of the link upon the under or inner face of top wall 1 thereof, is a plate 5 preferably of sheet metal, plate 5 being provided adjacent one end thereof and preferably integrally, as by punching or the like, with an obliquely outwardly disposed spring or strap-engaging member 6.

Fitting flatwise upon plate 5 within the confines of the shell or body-member of the link, is a second plate 7 cut away at one end, as at 8, to provide an approximately U- shaped guide-frame embracing and surrounding the spring 6 of plate 5, the legs 9-9 of frame 8 being presented toward one end, as for instance, end 3, and which, for purposes of description, I will call the female end of the link; As seen particularly in Fig. 5, frame 8 of plate 7 has a width approximately the same as the width of cut away portion or opening- 4 in end wall 3 of the link. For purposes shortly appearing, one leg, as, for instance, leg 9, of frame 8 is lengthwise cut away on its inner side to provide at the outer end thereof a shoulder or lug 10 presented toward the other or opposite leg 9 of said guide-frame.

The plate 7 is somewhat shorter in length than plate 5, whereby I provide a space, as at 11, at the opposite or, as I will call it, the male end of the link. WVithin this space and endwise abutting against plate 7, is the inner or pintle end of a flat link-attaching member or strap 12 fully described in said application and which, as in said application also fully described, is adapted to fit within the frame 8 and eo-engage with the spring 6 of a second link A to detachably fasten link A and said second link A together. Similarly fitting within the space 11 and endwise abutting against the plate 7 of a third link A, as seen particularly in Fig. 5, is the inner or pintle end of my new end-catch or fastening member 13. This catch or member 13 projects longitudinally outwardly of the shell of the link through the cut away portion or opening 4 in end wall 3 of the shell and at its inner end is provided with laterally extending oppositely disposed pintle-lugs 1 l1 1 which hingedly engage with end wall 3 of .the link-shell, as seen in Fig. 5. Also snugly fitting fiatwise within the confines of the shell of the slink and upon and covering plate 7 with its frame 8 and also the pintleend of catch 13, is a third or shell-closing plate or wall 15 cut away at one end, as at 16, to permit of some hinged or swinging movement of member 18 relatively to the shell of the link, side walls 2 and end walls 33 of the shell being crimped or inturned upon the outer face of plate 15 to not only secure member 13 to, but also retain the plates 5 and 7 rigidly within, the shell or body-member of the link.

The member 13 is flat upon its opposite faces and of such size relatively to the frame 8 of the link A as to endwise slidably fit therein, member 13 being lengthwise cut away or kerf'ed, as at 17,to provide a sidewise yieldable or spring portion 18 having a recess 19 to releasably engage with shoulder or lug 10 of leg 9 of the frame 8. Opposite spring portion 18, member 13 is provided with an outwardly projecting portion or shoulder 20.

In use or operation, on catch or member 13 being slidably inserted into the female end of the link A, as illustrated in Fig. 5, spring portion 18 thereof will engage at its recess 19 with said shoulder 10, shoulder or projection 20 at the same time engaging upon the end wall 3 of the link A, said link A and said third link A being thereby releasably locked securely together. On proper pressure being applied upon the pro jecting head 21 of spring portion 18 of the member 13, spring-portion 18 will be disengaged at its recess 19 from the shoulder or lug 10 of the frame, when the said links may be at once readily detachably disconnected.

While I have herein shown and described my invention in connection with a braceletlink or links, for which use it is especially adapted and designed, it is to be understood that the same may equally well be applied to other jewelry articles or the like, and that changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts thereof may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a jewelry article, a link comprising spaced apart top and back walls and side and end walls therebetween, one of said end walls being cut away to provide an opening into the link and the link being provided interiorly adjacent said opening with a laterally projecting lug, and a fastening-member adapted to normally fit snugly through said opening and within the link, said member being cut away inwardly from one side edge and then forwardly to integrally provide a spring-portion sidewise yieldable in the plane of said member, said spring-portion being recessed at one side edge to releasably engage with said lug when said member is within the link.

2. In a jewelry article, a link comprising spaced apart top and back walls and side and end walls therebetween, one of said end walls being cut away to provide an opening into the link and the link being provided interiorly adjacent said opening with a laterally projecting lug, and a fasteningme1n ber adapted to normally fit snugly through said opening and within the link, said member being cut away on a gradual curve inwardly from one side edge and then forwardly longitudinally of the member to integrally provide a spring-portion sidewise yieldable in the plane of said member, said springportion being recessed at one side edge to releasably engage with said lug when said member is within the link.

3. In a jewelry article, a link comprising spaced apart top and back walls and side and end walls therebetween, one of said end walls being cut away to provide an opening into the link and the link being provided interiorly adjacent said opening with a laterally projecting lug, and a fastening-menr ber adapted to normally fit snugly through said opening and within the link, said mem ber being cut away on a gradual curve inwardly from one side edge and then for wardly longitudinally of the member to integrally provide a spring-portion sidewise yieldable in the plane of said member, said spring-portion being recessed at one side edge to releasably engage with said lug when said member is within the link, said member being provided at the free end of its said springportion and upon its side opposite thereto with a pair of oppositely dis-- posed laterally projecting enlargements adapted to engage upon the end wall of the link at opposite sides of said opening when said member is within the link and said spring-portion thereof in engagement with said lug.
