Description
UNITED STATES YWILLIAM H. SNYDER, OF PHELPS, NEW YORK;
IMPROVEMENT IN WATER-WHEEL CASES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,1947 dated September 19, 1871.
by declare that the following is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is avertical central section of my improved water-wheel casetaken through the line a' Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section of the same taken through the line y y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has forgits object to improve the construction of the cylinder-gate of water-wheel cases so as to confine the water until it reaches the wheel, to make its action upon the wheel more direct and effective; and it consists in the water-stops in combination with the cylindrical gate and sluice-Ways or chutes of the case of the' wheel, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the case of the wheel, in which the shutes or sluice-ways B are formed, and within which the wheel revolves. which shuts down around the oase A to close the chutes B, wholly or to any desired extent. To the inner side of the cylindrical gate C are attached stops D, which are made of such a size and shape as to fit accurately into the chutes B and form a top wall to said chutes, said stops extending into the wheel. By this means the water is coniined and kept from spreading while passing through the chutes, causing it to produce its full effect upon the wheel.
Having thus described my invention7 I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A Water-wheel embracing the exterior casing, provided at its lower part with a series of angular flanges, D, independently connected and removable at will, and the interior casing provided with the chutes B, between which the iianges are arranged to control the flow of the Water to the wheel, substantially as set forth.
WILLIAM H. SNYDER. Witnesses:
LYsANDER REDFIELD, B. MCKENNA.
