ATTACHMENT FOR TELEPHONE-MOUTHPIECES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 18, 1916.
Application filed December 10, 1914. Serial No. 876,451.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOSEPHINE A. HALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Telephone-Mouthpieces; and I do be prevented.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of an attachment of the character named which can be easily applied to and removed from a telephone transmitter and which embodies anabsorbent pad adapted to be charged with a disinfectant and capable of being removed from the attachment for the purpose of recharging same.
A still further object of theinvention resides in the provisiom of a sanitary attachment for telephone mouth pieces which will be simple in construction, durable, and which can be manufactured at a comparatively small cost.
Still another object of the invention resides in the provision of an attachment of the character named which when applied will not interfere with the use of the telephone, but on the other hand will render the tones clearerand stronger.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which-.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a telephone transmitter showing the attachment applied, and Fig. 2, a longitudinal section of what is shown in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings 10 indicates the mouth piece of a telephone transmitter, same being of the usual and well known construction. The improved attachment comprises a tubular member 11 having perforations 12 formed therein. One end of the member 11 is provided with a circumscribing flange 13 the free edge of which is provided with lips 14 for engaging over the outer end of the mouth piece 10 and further provided at spaced intervals with. tongues 15 adapted to be bent down upon the outer side of-the mouth piece 10 to secure the attachment firmly thereto. The end of the tubular member 11 remote from the flange 13 is provided with a circumscribing flange 16 of less extent than the flange 13 and forming in conjunction with the latter a channel 17 in which is disposed an absorbent pad 18. This pad is held in place by another tubular member 19 which is engaged over the pad and the tubular member 11 until one end thereof abuts the flange 13. The tubular member 19 is provided at its outer end with an inwardly directed flange 20 of a width sufiicient to dispose the free edge thereof flush with the inner wall of the tubular member 11. The member 19 is provided at the junction of its body and the flange 20 with perforations 21 to further expose the absorbent pad 18.
It will be noted that the thickness of the pad 18 is such that when the member 19 is applied the pad will be compressed and the reaction of the pad as the result of such compression will hold the member 19 against accidental disengagement from its covering and holding position with respect to the pad.
What is claimed is A telephone mouth piece attachment comprising a cylindrical tubular member provided with perforations, a circumscribing flange on one end of the member, means on said flange for securing the member to a telephone mouth piece, a second circumscribing flange on the other end of the member forming in conjunction with the first flange :1 channel surrounding the member, a pad disposed in said channel, and a second tubular member engageable over the first 5 named tubular. member and pad to retain the latter in place by movement of the member over the outer end of the first named tubular member, said pad being of such thickness that the application of the second tubular 10 member will compress the pad whereby the reaction from such compression will lock the second tubular member against accidental displacement from its holding position with respect to the pad.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signa- 15 ture, in the presence of two witnesses.
