IMPROVEMENT IN FUR-SET BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 119,095, dated September 19, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARLE H. SMITH, of Bergen Heights, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Fur-Set Boxes and the following is a speciiication thereof:
The object of this improvement is to produce a fur-set box of increased capacity, superior form, and reduced cost.
Fur-set boxes as now made have several disadvantages One of these is their expensive shape, the rectangular being unadapted for economical production; another is the want of sufficient room for the fur-collar without injurious folding, because the rectangular form of the collar-compartment coniines its dimensions to the diameter of the mutt.
My invention overcomes these objections, and to enable others to avail themselves of my invention I will proceed to describe the same, referring to the annexed drawing, wherein- Figure l is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a plan. i
My improved fur-set box is oval in outline or plan, and4 has a circular box, A C, furnishing a compartment, C', suited to hold an ordinary muft.
This box is arran ged Within and surrounded by an outer box, A B, having one endV adapted to the contour of the muff, and the other end set off from the mutt-compartment A C in such a manner as to form a compartment, D, of a curvilinear shape, and equal in width around the curve to half the circumference of the muff, thereby producing, in a compound box of ordinary breadth, a compartment for the fur-collar of lune-shape in cross-section or plan, and of suflicient capacity to afford ample room for any style of collar, or for a ladys tippet, the latter being too large for any fur-set box hitherto devised.
In producing such compound box in the simplest manner for the saving of stock, I form the two compartments described by inserting in an oval or oblate box, A B, a curved or bent partition, C, and-the line of the partition maybe reg ular or broken, and other modifications may be made While preserving the chief characteristics specied of a mmf-compartment adapted in shape to the imiform diameter of the muff, combined with a collar-compartment of approximate lune or crescent-shape.
Fur-set boxes so made have the advantages: First, of increased capacity, there being room in the compartment D for an extra large collar, or for a tippet with only the ordinary middle fold common thereto. Second, superior form, the oval or oblate beingparticularly Well adapted to preserve its shape, and far better'than the rectangular. Third, reduced expense, the simplicity of form admitting of a material saving in cost of production.
I claim- Y In a fur-set box, the combination of the muff and collar-compartments described, arranged within abox having an oval or like non-rectangular contour, substantially as specified.
EARLE H. SMITH.
