Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 4, 1916.

To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK MASHEK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pool- Table Pockets, of which the' following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pool table pockets, and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character which is efficient in use and capable of economical manufacture.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,

The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing, comprises a substantially cylindrical pocket formed of a sheet 4 of leather provided with a plurality of slits 5 spread apart to form a flexible foraminated material, the edges of said sheet being overlapped and secured by rivets 6 to form a substantially cylindrically shaped pocket.J The lower ends 7 of the sheet 4 are turned inwardly and secured to a leather se? curing plate 8 by means of a plurality of rivets 9, as shown. A distending plate 10 of fiber or other stiff material is arranged inside the bottom of said pocket, a distancing washer l1 being positioned centrally between plates 8 and 10, as shown, to provide a substantially level seat for the plate 10. The plates 8 and 10 are secured together centrally by means of a single rivet 12 and a protecting lining 13 is glued or otherwise secured to the top ofplate 10 so as to protect balls from contact with rivet 12. This construction furnishes a simple and economical pool table pocket and the distending plate l0 serves to prevent sagging and inward collapsing of the same under the weight of the balls therein.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departlng from the spirit of the invention. I therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A pooltable pocket formed of flexible material, the lower edges of said material being turned inwardly; a securing plate secured to the bottom of said inwardly turned lower edges; and a distending plate of sti material arranged inside the bottom of said pocket and secured to said securing plate, substantially as described.
2. A pool table pocket formed of flexible material, the lower edges of said material being turned inwardly; a securing plate riveted to the bottom of said inwardly turned lower edges; and a distending plate of stifl material arranged inside the bottom of said pocket and riveted centrally to said securing p plate, substantially as described.
3. A pool table pocket formed of a sheet of leather split and spread at the splits to form a flexible foraminated material, the lower edges of said sheet being turned inwardly; a securing plate riveted to the bottom of said inwardly turned lower edges; a
distending plate of stiff material secured inside the bottom of said pocket by means of a single rivet passed centrally therethrough and through said securing plate; and a lining of softer material covering said distending plate, substantially as described.
