Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. BORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Weyauwega, in the county of Waupaca and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Strainers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in the construction of strainers primarily adapted for use in straining the water from curd in the manufacture of cheese but, of course, is susceptible for straining the juices from fruits, etc., and an object of the invention is to construct a device wherein the straining bag may be easily, quickly and securely attached thereto and wherein the device may be supported in a horizontal position so that all of the juice will flow through the mesh of the bag.

It is a further object of the invention to produce a strainer which shall be simple, cheap to manufacture, and which shall be thoroughly eflicient for the purpose devised.

With the above and other objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended claims.

In the drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating a strainer constructed in accordance with the present invention showing the same attached to a support. Fig. 2 is an approximately vertical longitudinal sectional view through-the same, Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view approximately on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the device with the straining sack or bag and the cap removed, Fig. 5 is an elevation looking toward the flat end of the handle member, and portions of the metal band being broken away.

The bag or sack l is of the usual textile fabric, and has its open end or mouth? turned upon itself and stitched to provide for the reception of the drawing string 2.

The supporting device for the strainer includes a metal band 3 which has its lower periphery flanged outwardly and upwardly, as at 4, and the edge of said flange is provided with teeth 5. The band 3 is provided with a spring clip 6 centrally secured to the said band whereby the ends of the drawing string after the bag is inserted upon the band and is engaged by the teeth 5 of the flange, may be brought between the outwardly flared ends of the clip and the band, to hold the mouth of the bag closed upon the band. Extending from the band at a point preferably diametrically opposite the clip 6, and from the upper portion of the said band is a handle member 7, and the said handle has its end provided with a laterally extending llat plate 8 which has its opposite edge anged inwardly to the upper and lower faces of the handle 7. One or both portions of the plate extending laterally from the handle has formed therein a keyhole slot 9, and the larger opening of the slot is adapted to receive the head l0 of a nail or other support, and the device is moved to bring the shank of said support 10 to within the smaller opening of the keyhole slot and thus suspend the device to retain the bag l in a vertical position. The band 3 is adapted to be closed by a flanged cap 11, the flange of the said cap engaging with the upper and beaded edge of the band, as clearly shown in the drawing. i

Having thus described the invention, what I claim is:

l. A strainer including a bag having its mouth provided with a drawing string, a band having one of its edges flanged outwardly and upwardly to receive the mouth of the bag, a spring clip upon the band to engage with the drawing string when the mouth of the bag is closed around the band, and a handle for the band.

2. A strainer including a textile bag' having its mouth provided with a drawing string, a metal band having its lower edge flanged outwardly and upwardly and provided with teeth which are adapted to engage with the bag when the bag is arranged upon the band, a spring clip upon the band to engage with the ends of the drawing string when the said string istightened to close the mouth of the bag upon the band, and a supporting handle for the band.

3. A strainer including a textile bag having its mouth provided with a drawing string, a metal band having its lower edge flanged outwardly and upwardly and the edge of the handle having its end provided with a flat laterally extending member, said member having its eXtensions formed with key-hole 10 slots to receive a headed supporting element, and a flanged closure for the band.
