Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE K. PROGTOR, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN TREADLES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE K. PRocToR, of Salem, in the county of' Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Treadle-Motion; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
My invention consists in an improved construetion and application to a balance-wheel of those parts which constitute the crank mechanism, as hereinafter i'ully described and subsequently pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is side elevation of a sewing-machine balance-wheel with my improved doublecrank attachment applied to it, and Fig. 2 is a section of the same taken on the line .fr a' of Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the main crank, and B the arm connected to it by the Wrist-pin of the connectiiig-rod C, and supporting another wrist-pin for a connecting-rod, D. The said part A has a large hole in its axis of motion, capable of admitting the hub E of the balance-Wheel; and at F it is Widened or provided with ears having a screw-threaded hole in each for reception of a screw, G, one on each side of an arm of the balance-wheel for holding the said double crank to the wheel, by means ofthe clamping-plate H on the other side of the arm, through which plate the screws pass. The outer end of the part A is provided with a concave recess, 1,'i'or fitting against one side of the stud K ofthe wheel, in which the wrist-pin is screwed. The said part A of the crank is so arranged with this stud that it sustains, to some extent, the strain of the connecting-rods.
These cra-nk attachments are to be made in different sizes and forms for attachment to the dili'erent kinds of sewing-machines, so that all users of machines, of whatever kind, may procure and apply them.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The crank A, constructed with recess I and ears having a screw-threaded hole in each, the screw G, and the plate H, all combined, constructed, and applied to a balance-wheel havin g stud K, as and for the purpose specied.
GEORGE K. PROCTOR.
